:idea:Ive been an addicted reefer for a little over a year now, but new to Canreef and the local thing. Can someone a little more seasoned than me (which I assume is everyone on the Edm. forum) let me know a bit more of what I can expect at a frag swap? I know, silly question, but I assume I wont be wandering around the parking lot with a cooler full of frags to hold to the sunlight in an effort to trade for something! Is it of interest to anyone to bring my left over equipment that has been in a salt bucket for a few months? Would it be compared to a flea market, do I break down my frag tank and set it up at the shop, or do I just come with a fist full of $20 bills?

Please anyone. Reminiscent of my first job, or first year of apprenticeship!:surprise:

Thanks.

I'm no expert on swap meets, but here are some ideas'

Have a picture how the frag or mother colony looks like
Bring things to trade, or sell
Bring money to buy anything that interests you
Have fun
Get to know your fellow hobbiests

Last but not least,

Come hungry

If anyone else hase any additions please tell.

Bring coolers for the frags.

If you're selling, a portable table (unless one is provided) is good. I usually bring a camp chair to sit in & some drinks or munchies (unless provided at the swap meet).

We found that these events are great for buying & selling frags & other livestock, but used equipment sales are much slower, so unless you're selling dirt cheap or giving it away, don't bring too much old, used equipment unless you're prepared to bring most of it back home again.

The Lower Mainland reefers (ie. Greater Vancouver area) just finished a very successful Reef Network organized swap meet at fkshiu's place in Vancouver.

Expect: good deals, good discussions with other fish/coral nuts, and generally a good time.

Some come as buyers, some as sellers, some as lookie-loos, some for the fellowship, and others for a combination of reasons.

As long as you arrive with a good attitude, a pocketful of money (for that fabulous frag you just can't come home without) and a cooler (or cooler bag) to pack everything home in, you're set.

I will have 6 or 8 tables set up, chairs are a good idea.

Pictures of the mother colony is a definate asset.

I am actualyl starting to get worried now... what if I don't have enough cash?

and more importantly, what if I spend TOO MUCH cash?

No worries....Red Coral will be calling in credit card transactions to the store here in Cowtown.....so no need for cash.:twised:

Wish I could make it up there to meet some of you E-town folks.... but alas....I am manning the store today....Red Coral will have some of my frags though, so I will be there in "frag" and in spirit....hope the event goes well and everyone has a great time.

You forgot a box of live rock at the store (with the heavy rock).

I put the rock away in a sump (marked with your name), until the next time you come in.
