Long ago, in our first reef, we bought a 4" colt. It was under MH and was placed at the back of the tank. Within six months, the colt took up a third of the tank  Wasn't into fragging the poor thing, so we traded it in. Man, under good lighting, they're great growers ....

Just a thought but that looks more like a leather to me. not a colt.

Whatever it is (and God only knows), it is looking way better.

Nice shot, Chad. I imagine there will be dozens more.

I thought as well that it was not a COLT.. however the person who sold it told me it was.. I can only believe what they say. If someone can give a better ID please do

I know nothing about corals, but is it a devils hand or something like that?

From colouring it looks like Cladiella / Colt but from spacing of the polyps looks more like Lobophytum / Finger - Devil'a hand. If it has a heavy mucus coat it's likely Colt. If it has a dimpled surface it's likely Devil's hand. Is the latest picture with full polyp extension? A picture with full polyp extension would show more of a difference.

The latest picture was taken at about 9:00pm... with the tank already going into sleep mode. It looks alot larger during the day time.. I will try and get a picture next weekend of it. It does have a mucus coat, I have only seen it shed it once.

It is unfortunate that so many things go by the same common name. I am going to post a picture to show why. The item on the left (beside the larger Toadstool) was sold to me as "Colt", the item on the right was given to me as "Finger Leather". It is too bad that I can't get better focus with this camera.

Looks like the same one I have. If I'm not mistaken, it's a cauliflower colt (http://www.exotictropicals.com/encyclo/fishnchips/feb99/feb99.htm#Cauliflower%20Coral).

Once settled and happy, they will grow like weeds. Just watch that other corals don't get too close. This one has a strong chemical defence.

There is a lot of similarity, but mine does not have the dense cauliflower like growths. It is more open. I am pretty sure it is a Cladiella sp. due to the slipperyness. It is also almost impossible to get it to anchor when fragging (I use the Tupperware container trick)
