I have always wanted a DSLR camera and my choice is the new CANON Rebel T1i c/w EF-S 18-55 IS kit lens. This camera includes the latest technology and 15.1 mega pixels.

Here is a sample of my first pictures. Wow I have a lots to learn to get the best out of this camera.

It is a Gorgonian Knobby sea rod.

I have it in my 75G Frag Tank. I also have frags of it available.

Great start Tom! Nice shots. If you still have a couple of pennies left over buy the automatic shutter release. It will let you take MANY more shots without touching the tripod and increase your chance getting those really sweet shots, although it looks like your well on your way with that!

Pretty nice pics. I look forward to some of the terrific shots you're going to get with a little practice.

I sell these cameras at London Drugs and absolutely love the T1. In my opinion it's the finest DSLR on the market for a beginning photographer. There's lots of room to grow into the camera and it has features that you'll discover and use for years. The live view, I think, is what sets this camera apart. While you rarely want to use live view when shooting (whenever possible use the eyepiece), what sets the T1 apart from any other camera in the class is an instant feedback in the manual modes as to how exposed your picture will look when you begin to fiddle with the manual settings. If your ISO is too low for your aperture or shutter speed, your picture will appear dark in the Live View. It allows you to adjust perfectly for a situation before you're ready to take your first pic!

Enjoy!

eh, a bunch of entry level DSLRs come with a live view lcd these days. what really sets the T1i apart from the pack is HD VIDEO!! The only others in the market right now with HD video is nikon's D90 and the canon 5D mark II... both a lot more expensive. anyways, congrats on your first DSLR purchase Tom, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun figuring out just how far the camera can go.

You know Tom, you absolutely HAVE to drop +$500 on a good macro lens now - speciality lenses are the reason why you have an SLR. It will open up a world you never knew existed.

I agree with fkshui, a good macro is great for chasing crabs, pods and things.

I have the 100 macro and it is easily my favourite lens. It is super sharp, good in low light and also works as a nice portrait lens. The 100 gets you back a bit from the subject which is an obvious advantage with an aquarium.

imo the selling point of the X1i is the 14bit A/D converter that is normally on the professional cameras.

Tom if you want the best macro lense (imo) out in the market with great sharpness and and clarity look into the Sigma 150mm f2.8 APO EX DG HSM Macro best macro lense in my opinion

I love my Canon 100mm F2.8 macro - cheaper, lighter, closer minimum focus distance than the Sigma and, well, it's a Canon.

im just saying the Sigma lens is a great lens (its definitely better then the Canon in Macro for sure), the canon 100mm f2.8 is a good lens too, until you need the pictures blew up into big poster sizes but the average reefer dont need pictures in 11x 14 sizes :)

Traditionally I would trust a Canon Lens over a Sigma. But you have my curiosity. Is it just sharpness you are finding between the 2 lenses.

I'm gonna have to look into this.

Thanks for the info

It will be a while before I can justify yet another lens (you know Canada Pension doesn't go that far). I picked up a Canon 55 - 250 IS on sale the other day. I will just have to put the 100mm macro on price watch to buy it on sale.

With all you guys having these wonderful lens I will just have to borrow them from time to time.

Well I guess it is just a sign of the times.

March 15 Canon announced the launch of the newest model in their Rebel Line. The Rebel T1i. It was to be available in Canada approx mid May at a launch price of $1099.99.

It was available in the stores May 1 at the launch price of $1099.99.

On May 9 Best Buy had it on Managers Special of $1049.99 for 2 days.

On May 23 Future Shop had it as an Online Special of $989.99 for 2 days.

Lucky for me I had the item on Future Shop Price Watch and they E-mailed me with their Online Special and I was able to get $110 + taxes credit applied to my Visa Account.

If you have job certainty it is a great time to buy big ticket items.

Most Retailers are totally consumed with a requirement for CASH FLOW and a reduction of INVENTORY.
