Over the past year I have had a growth of large brown like kelp that grows on my rock, pumps and glass. It also gets a fuzzy grey growth on the kelp. It gows in a round, flat, mushroom shape and layers on top of each other...... and it grows like crazy.
Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?
Thanks,
Jim

Well, first off all kelp is algae but not all algae is kelp. A photo would really help out, from the description in sounds like some sort species of halidima a macro algae. Species like tangs and Seahares are great for controling it but your best bet is to fix the problem, increasing flow, decreasing nitrate/ phosphates and keeping a steady system. What are your tank parameters right now?

Yup, wafer algae. You'll need a flame thrower to get rid of it
