Sweet little cube. I really like this size...the frag tank at the store is this size and I want that tank too. Whatcha gonna put in it?

It's going to be a mixed reef but mostly sps. I have a school of 5 Threadfin Cardinals to go in it and I'm going to pick up a couple Bangaii Cardinals this week. I also have several small inverts, 3 sexy shrimp, 2 nano cleaner shrimp, purple porcelin crab, pom pom crab and I did have a bumble bee shrimp but it managed to escape from my in-tank refugium in my 90g and now I can't find it . Oh yeah, I almost forgot I also have a Gumdrop Coral Croucher that I NEVER see that will go in the tank, it lives inside the live rock almost all the time.

just a suggestion with 'scaping. In addition to the whole hulk smash idea. I've really become a fan of tanks with not a whole helluva lot of rockwork. The nano has MAYBE 2lbs in it. and the 50 gallon I'm working on will have 25-30.... maybe try that route?

I'm with you on not going overkill with rock, I'm not keeping all 130lbs of rock. I had my heart set on creating a "bonsai" inspired look after following a thread on RC (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=11540863) but I honestly don't think I'm going to be able to replicate it.

Thanks, I love the threadfin cardinals, they've remained in a tight school even in my 90g and they're the only inhabitants. I can't wait to get a bangaii pair, should happen fairly soon. As for the gumdrop coral groucher, he's MIA.

As for the rock scape...........too much work and not enough patience

If you would have told me two years ago that I was gonna spend the better part of an entire w/e doing my aquascaping, I would have said you are crazy.....but thats what I did....it was a total PITA and caused me all sorts of frustration but I am soooo happy I spent the time to do it the way I wanted.

Did the rock work on May 22. I ended up not doing the bonsai but I think I'm satisfied with how it turned out.
http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt191/noirsphynx/RockworkMay2209.jpg

I transferred everything over that would fit(have to sell a few things) but in the process I lost 3 of the 5 Threadfin Cardinals which I'm pretty sad about. I transferred 3 of them out of the tank they were in one night and the last 2 the following day. The ones I had done first went in to shock(right after being caught and in the bucket, didn't even make it to the tank) and died almost instantly, it was really weird.........very sensitive fish:cry:. The 2 I transferred the following day went smoothly.

Anyone else have a cube of similar size? I'm wondering what you're using for flow? I like the Vortech but I'm not so sure it's the right pump for this tank. I'm thinking two Tunze Turbelle Nanostream 6055 would be the better choice or adding another vortech as a slave pump. The only part I wouldn't like about adding another vortech is that I would have to pull my tank out from the wall to fit the motor on the back and right now my tank sits flush with the dividing wall it's on. I think the vortech would be great if I could put it in the center on the back wall but there's zero room for a dry box in the overflow.

The Phoenix bulb arrived today. I have to say thanks to Ocean Aquatics (http://oceanaquatics.com/store/) for such great service. It was shipped out same day, arrived super fast and was packaged so well.

Hey Noir, that a nice T. crocea. Did they tell you its a T. maxima?

Lol, I thought it might be. It's my first clam so I wasn't positive but yes, I bought it as a Maxima. I'm glad though if it is a crocea because originally that's what I wanted since they stay smaller.

So you should be good.. BUT, give it enough light as they are light hogs.

The Midas is my absolute favorite Blenny but I have small inverts that I didn't want to chance with the Midas. I wanted a Midas when I had my 90g running and wouldn't you know it, as soon as I tear it down a Midas appears at the LFS  I could have stayed at AI all day watching him last week.

How about territoriality? passive? i am planning to add a rainford goby.

I haven't had him long enough to tell how they are personally but they're supposed to be a peaceful fish.

"Generally found amid crevices and rocks on the bottom of its environment, the Tail Spot Blenny needs a tank of at least 10 gallons with plenty of live rock for grazing, perching and hiding. They should not be housed with aggressive species that may intimidate these fish into hiding.

The diet of the Tail Spot Blenny should include vegetable matter, including frozen and dried foods containing marine and blue-green algae. It will also feed on (and help control) algae growing in the aquarium."

did i mention that it was almost 2 times the size when he saw it the naxt day?

You may be able to save the affected sps by crazy gluing the edge between the living and dead tissue....its worked for me a couple times.

I've sort of been looking for Bumblebee shrimps (Gnathophyllum americanum). From what little I've read about them, they get to around 1.5 - 2 inches long, and aren't aggressive (reef safe too). I can't find that much information on them. They don't seem to be that common though I've seen them offered on a number of websites this year... My tank needs some variety and I love that pic of the different shrimps (and crab) together. Maybe a few shrimps and a pair of Pom Pom Crabs will add some much needed life to my reef.

Looking good anyhow, everyone seems to get along alright? I worry about adding something that will fight with my current livestock since everyone is getting along great these days (no aggression between my purple firefish and Hector's goby anymore).

Looking good anyhow, everyone seems to get along alright? I worry about adding something that will fight with my current livestock since everyone is getting along great these days (no aggression between my purple firefish and Hector's goby anymore).

I have one bumble bee in the tank and he's been completely reef safe. I'd like to get a second one. It's kinda funny to watch him annoy my tonga nassarius snails once in a while but he never does anything to them excpet maybe hitch a ride:lol:. Everyone in the tank gets along. The most I've seen is a tiny bit of bickering between my two male pom poms(I have 2 males & a female) but nothing major. I'd also like to add a pair of Harley's.

So cool to see you got a weedfish too, I have to say you got a much better pic. of yours then I did of mine.

We were going to buy that anemone shrimp, but we were worried if it tried to host in the gbta the clownfish would harass it, and if it didn't have somewhere safe to stay my trigger or wrasse might make a meal out of it, however they leave my sexy and peppermint shrimp alone, so it might not of been an issue, but I didn't want to find out the hard way if it was. Nice to see it went to a good home.

So I'm sitting watching the tank and all of a sudden I see hundreds of teeny tiny shrimp:surprise:. I think it's my new anemone shrimp releasing the eggs but then I notice one of my sexy shrimp happily expelling all her babies. I stuck my hand in and scooped some up and they sat on my hand and did little tiny jumping movements just like the adults. I'm so ticked that I'm not set up to raise these guys. I guess it's good food for my filter feeders and corals though:cry:.

Hmm, it's possible that some of those baby shrimp might make it in a 'fuge or something. Very cool! I have a large pair of Stomatella snails in my little 10 gallon that I have seen at least one of expelling 'something' in what looks like breeding behaviour... but I think they spend some time as plankton, so I don't expect to see small stomatellas sliding around anytime. It's awesome when stuff like this happens in tanks though... keep up the good work!

I doubt any made it. Maybe next time I notice a pregnant female I might be able to manage and catch her and move her to a small refuge. It is very cool and it would be awesome to have some survive. Hopefully you'll get lots of Stomatellas, they reproduce like rabbits in my tank, there's always babies.

I've never had any problems with the porcelain's and sexy's and I've housed them together for about 1.5 yrs, actually I've never even heard of porcelain's eating them. I would assume since they're filter feeders they'd be fairly safe with anything. The pom pom's have never caused me any problems with other inhabitants either, except one another. I had two males that got along fine until I introduced a female and then they started fighting. I ended up re-homing one of the males so they didn't kill each other.

I don't think they really require an anemone host. Before bringing the anemone home the crab hosted on a chunk of rock that's encrusted with a blue sponge/green cyphastrea/favia.

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt191/noirsphynx/DSC_0160.jpg

I also got a nice surprise tonight. I decided to get up on a stool and have a good look down in to the tank when I spy two blue lines staring back at me from the overflow. I wonder what the hell because I just saw my neon goby 2 seconds before IN the tank. I look down and yup there's the neon in the tank but there's a 2nd one in the overflow. It took me a second to remember that months ago I had brought one home and it had gone missing within days. I thought for sure it had died because it was no where to be found. I had searched the floor, sump & overflow. The little brat did a good job of hiding and surviving and is nice and plump and healthy. The other blue neon also took to the little guy as if they were long lost friends/lover's swimming side by side and wriggling it's little body against the other, so cute. Gotta love a happy ending when I thought the little guy was dead .

Looooonnnnng time no update so here's a little one with lots of pics. I've taken out all the old sand, added new stuff, taken out all the old live rock which was covered in various algae and added new stuff. The 20g will be home to my two newest darlings, Yin & Yang the Spotcinctus clowns  I fell in love as soon as I laid eyes on them and just HAD to have them so I used some of the money I had saved which was destined for a red carpet anemone . Thanks Denny. So happy to finally have a happy healthy war paint. This is my third guy, the first two would not eat no matter what I tried . This guy happily and eagerly eats cyclopeeze. The baby clowns are my new loves . No ID yet but I'm determined to find out . If I figure it out I'll let you know. Do you remember the day you came in to the store and I showed you those light pnik & green zoas that I liked, well I bought some and they coloured up to be the ones in pic #3 which I'm pretty sure are Pink Elephant Paly's
PS - PM coming your way probably next week regarding zoas

My cube is no show piece at the moment but if Laurie wants to come visit with you she's more than welcome but I live 20 mins. north of the city  Only a small handful of Canreefer's have seen my cube due to me living outside the city.

page 2 left hand side about half way down.....in the pic they have, the skirts show up with a bit of a green tinge(not pink like yours, but that could just be lighting or camera setting differences????)

They're similar but not quite the same. I think the deep space also have green mouths too, mine are white.

Thanks Wayne. It didn't take too long actually, it was a fluke of a shot. I just wish it was a little clearer.

Sorry no FTS, my tank looks like butt. I can never get it the way I like it. I just wanted to share a cute video. I recently added a pearly jawfish to the tank. The jawfish made his burrow directly under the blenny's hole and the blenny would watch him very curiously. I guess his curiosity got the best of him and now he thinks he's a jawfish. They now happily share the burrow.

and a teeny tiny sexy shrimp but I didn't take a pic.

Hi I saw that you had a weedfish. I can't find any information about this fish on the internet.
He looks to be "reef Safe" am I wrong? Did you have it released in your tank. Did he eat any of yours shrimps?

Sorry, but I got one myself and I am just worried that it could destroy my corals or eat all members of my tank.

Any toughts about this fish? Below is my weedfish, in different colors. It is a crested weedfish from Australia. The big mouth concerns me:neutral:

He was an awesome little fish but unfortunately I didn't have him long enough to be able to answer you're question. I honestly don't know how much I would trust the bigger ones......the way mine would sit and oogle my fish was a little alarming and he was very fiesty when it came to feeding time.
