I find that my 10 gallon sump (directly beneath my 29gallon display tank) tends to get a build up of light brown detritus on the bottom of the tank.
Anyone know of a good housekeeping organism that will eat this detritus?
This is the stuff that leads to ammonia yes?
thanks in advance.
I just put some snails in mine but eventually you'll want to siphon the detritus out.

Using filter socks mostly eliminates that.

hmm i'm gonna have to try the filter sock thing.
that's a really good idea.
could i just use nylon stockings or will that work?
cause siphoning isn't really practical. my sump is pretty much at ground level.

No, you'll need an actual filter sock. They're reasonably cheap and washable. If your LFS doesn't have them, lots of our online sponsors carry them.

put a power head in the sump. helps keep everthing floating around so the skimmer can get it.
