View Full Version : search - exclude signatures?

Is it possible to add something to the search page... Namely the ability to exclude results that are in someone's signature? With many people putting large detailed tank specs in their signature - the search results are becoming pretty useless - as few of the posts returned were actually on the subject...
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I don't immediately see anything that allows us to configure that, but perhaps we can restrict what goes in the sig line. Personally, I'm not sure why some people create their tank journals in their signature, we have a forum for that :)
Maybe CanReef should start limiting the details members are allowed to put in their sigs? Although it's kinda nice sometimes to be able to PM someone about a piece of equipment they have listed and ask how they like it.
Let me be the first to offer mine.
Sorry Andy. I seem to be the only one. :noidea:

I know some of the forums I am on have big sig pics, so there is an option in the profile to exclude sigs.
Haven't checked here, maybe if that isn't an option it's time to upgrade !!
:lol::mrgreen::razz:
Oops, you were talking about the search...hmm never had that problem so maybe same answer....time for an upgrade !!

Testing new sig.
I think it's really usefull to see at a glance some extended info info about a user's system right where they've posted. Too bad it's not possible to tweak the search code. I imagine it is possible but perhaps time consuming.

I totally agree, however us mods aren't equipped to deal with the software issues that are required to make this fix. So its easier this way. If people are posting about various issues with their tank they should really be including that information anyways.
Besides, we need to give the Tank Journal forum a boost
Trying to spread this message is about the same result as me trying to grow acro,s.
Seems hopeless. Perhaps its best left as is?

I'm confused, when I click on your link this message comes up
"fishoholic, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."
Is it supposed to do that as a joke? or am I missing something?
Anyway I like having links to pic.'s of my tanks in my sig. as it allows people easy access to view my system. I also enjoy looking at other peoples links, and I find some of the sig.'s quite funny to read. I personally think our sig.'s are quite small in comparison to other sites, like AP for example.

Try this link instead..

. No wonder nobody reads the link.
Links are good Laurie. Its the itemized list of all tank inhabitants and equipment we thought of limiting. If everyone just did a link like yours, and many others, they would not sow up in the search, which was the initial problem and anyone wishing to view ones tank and equipment just need click the link.
IMO, I wonder how much of a search problem it was. I never had any myself and again, just in my view, I like the list of thingys under a signature, as long as it was not a page longer than most posts.

I have to agree, I've never had any problems whenever I've searched for something, and I like looking at/reading people's sig.'s.
