Who's got 'em or used to have one?

I just bought a 1979 Yamaha XS 1100...and I'm going to murder it LOL. New Forks, New Seat, possibly a harley-style gas tank. Helllooooooooooooo Chopper!

Anyone?

I don't have a bike yet but I rode my friends Ducati Monster S4R the other day and am trying to convince him to sell it to me :D

He NEVER rides its so it just sits down in the underground parking of our building. For now hes saying no but I think he will come around. He paid $30K two years ago and I figure $20K is fair ;)

But I also have to actually get my Canadian bike license still...I think it takes a month? He said a month but he got his years ago...

$20K! I bought my bike for $400 :D I figure once my brother and I make it beautiful there should be another $1500 so I'l lhave a rad chopped bike for about 2 grand, which isn't bad at all.

I'm not sure about BC, I know in Alberta there's a course you can take (they even rent you the bikes for crying out loud) and they teach you pretty much everything, even how to lay down a bike should you need to. Then you get a discount on your license.

The last bike I had (2007 Katana 750) I bent the frame on...so I'm excited to get this beast. And when I say beast I mean it...this thing has 4 pipes running from the engine, 1100 cc...big bike for someone like me (5'7")

WOO HOO another chick that rides bikes... I don't know enough of them. I have a 2000 Roulette green Triumph speed triple. It's the bike from the Mission Impossible II movie. Actually it's on my Facebook profile picture right now.

It's for sale now since I never have a chance to ride it.

Yeah Diana, I saw the pic in your profile. You're selling Frank's too? Or who's is the red bike?

I don't mind rockets, don't get me wrong, they are a hot bike...but this one is going to be rad...

This is pretty much identical to how the bike looks now (not the exact bike, but same colouring, model etc):

Yes the ZX10R is also for sale... I am sick of him getting mass tickets or running away from the sheriffs when they clock him doing a million. I never considered my bike a crotch rocket since Frank can blow past me like I am standing still. I wanted something different then anybody else's so I opted for my S3. I love my bike but hate riding in the wind, cold or not so perfect weather conditions... therefore I never ride it.

I like your bike and it will look sweet when it is done...can you do a concept drawing... I know you can.:wink:

Frank's bike is all carbon fiber farings, aftermarket everything, NOS, and has custom ghost skulls in the paint. He hates riding it since when we go out for a couple of hours it's a back breaker, mine is not so comfy either. I want something better the next time around as I am 6' tall and all my height is in my legs. They get really crampy on my Triumph too.

Somewhere between this one:

and this one:
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m21/casper_023/1979-yamaha-other-yamaha-xs-650-cho.jpg
The last one is only a 650, but we're planning on cutting out alot of the unnecesary stuff in my bike so it'll be a naked looking frame.

that's one bad ass bike Steve.

I'm a big fan of cruiser style bikes lately. Alot easier to enjoy the ride on the highway. When I had the Katana any time someone passed me I would have to work a little harder to keep her level.

It's a 2006 S2R 800 with 5,800 km. Asking $7,600

Also have a trunk that slides on the rear seat cowl so a helmet and jacket can be locked securely

Well I have my bike license from the US already. We'll see what they say about riding here. I had a Honda for about 3 years when I lived down in Miami. For me a bike always seemed like a waste with the weather up here but now I am starting to consider it.

Oh and 20K is a bit more than I would actually pay :D

He did put an insane amount of money into this bike though. I think off the lot it was about $22K when all was said and done (base was $16K, so he upgraded about everything) and then with some of the aftermarket mods, it up to about 30K! Its a 2007, so not too old.

Besides wearing his really sweaty helmet, it was so nice to ride this thing. A little more powerful than I am used to but I could manage ;)

Thanks, the pipes that are in the pic arn't the ones that are on the bike now. I put the HK bigh 3" straits on it, lot nicer looking. I have also rejetted the carb, removed the air snorkel, put a K'N' air filter on, changed all the oils to synthetic, and made my own set of engine bars. thoes I am not happy with I used 1" pipe to make them and they look skinny on a fat bike, so I am thinking about buying a set of Lindby hi-way bars.

Mind you I am also thinking of trading it in on a new honda also. brand new honda modle comming out this month and it is bad ass

My boyfriend has a blue crotch rocket. He's selling it because he only got out twice last year. I wont' ride on it though. My dad has a REAL bike, I ride on it with him lots. it's a 1998 Harley Davdson FL Classic (funny I don't even know the brand of my bf's crotch rocket). Looks like the pic except the pic is a Classic Ultra, and he takes the hard bags off, which makes the "couch" come off so it's just a flat seat on the back. If he guns it he'll lose me off the back. Now that's fun!!! :D

I don't have any pics on this puter, but it looks a lot like this one:
http://images02.olx.com/ui/2/18/92/17431692_1.jpeg

I REALLY want a bike. Mine would HAVE to be Vivid Black (semi matte). I don't like chrome on bikes. I love the HD Night Rod Special:

But I wouldn't mind an HD 1200 Nightster:

mmmm that honda made me drool a little.

Pretty neat how now you can buy ready made choppers. Takes some of the fun out of it though.

I've decided to bobber the bike. Keep the original frame and all the fun stuff...take it back about 30 years to a 1950s look...

yup, or you can just call it a "thinking man's Harley"

when I bought the bike in 04, I was looking to spend 10K or less. any harley I looked at that was about 10K the stores would ask me if I am prepared to spend another 5 to 8K over the next 5 years...

to buy the style I wanted in a Harley it would have been 32K, I only spend 10including some gear on this one, and it doesn't leave oil spots on my driveway:wink:

At least it is dependable unlike the domestics or English bikes... Bikes and their owners are such a diverse group. Living out in Bragg Creek is a blast to ride into the hamlet and get to see the bikes... they are already rolling into town with gravel on the roads and snow drifts in the ditches...

Thanks, he passed away almost 2 years ago. That was one of the last pictures taken of him before he got sick. He did really enjoy sitting on the chopper, guess he thought he was pretty cool

The details on my Dad's bike close up are really sweet, skulls painted inside of skulls and that sort of thing, also each skull on there is different. Very detailed work.

Mmmm, bikes. Two beemers at the moment, a 1981 R80G/S and a 2000 R1200C. My first bike back in the Cold Lake days was a Honda XL175. Great old hack to tool around the boonies on. Sold it in the 80s.

Cherry Grove Alberta in the 70s

The R80G/S qualifies for collector's plates so it's real cheap on insurance. I'm the original owner, bought it on my first tour in Germany with the Air Force. Still runs great and I have a 1,000cc kit for it but not sure if I'll install it, may invalidate the collector status.

Picked up the R1200C in Ottawa while I was at the dealer getting parts for the R80. I saw it on the showroom floor and got all weak in the knees. I lasted less than a week before I bit the bullet and coughed up the dough. Takes a llittle more washing/waxing than the R80, but it serves it's purpose well as a cruiser.

I agree, my friend bought the similar version that was out a few years back and paid like 8K down in California. Last time I was down there, I rode his bike and man it was nice! But again, just not the kind of style I can pull off...I look ridiculous riding a chopper. But if I grew my bread out some more, wore more leather and got way more tattoos, then just maybe

Well I would have to if I want to ride a chopper wouldn't I??? Isn't that a prerequisite? Well, unless I want to look like some of those dudes you hear coming down the road on a loud chopper and then when you turn to check them out, you kind of think...'what the heck is that guy doing on that bike???'

Yeah that would be me on a chopper. I suit the Ducati much more ;)

Any idea as to what type of bike? You strike me as a crotch rocket type...

lol how did you know. well for my first bike i am debating if i should buy a new Kawasaki ninja 250r to play it safe for the first 2 years (with a full yoshi exhaust of course) or listen to my friends and pick up a honda f4i/600rr or a gsx-r 600. I took my friends f4 for a rip last year and he has a 64 spoke sproket, thats what got me hooked on stunting. thing just wanted to go up.

here is a video of the off axis guys, if it works

This my Honda VTX1800f that I had for 3 years ... sold it in January ... looking for a ZX14 now ... FYI for those that like to ride a *little* over the posted limit ... get a laser jammer ( laser interceptor is a good one ) and a good radar detector ( valentine 1, Belltronics or esort are good too )

I used a RX65 on my bike the last couple seasons and it saved my butt more than once :)

Sharp looking Bike, and thanks for the tip.

Lorenzo...My first bike was a Katana, was decent for getting into it, but those other bikes you mentioned blow it out of the water.

Where on Earth are you planning on stunting in Calgary?!

I have. I even went so far as to look them up once, but do you think I could remember the URL or name or anything? I gotta stop drinking out of aluminum cans.

I also remember they profiled them on Discovery a few years back when they first started popping up.

To me it seems kind of neat. But I wonder what it's like cornering on them. I'm not motorbiker (although I ride two wheels a lot so I *sort* of know what I'm talking about here...maybe??), but it seems to me part of the allure is the banking into a turn? With 3 wheels you're not going to get the same feel (whether the duallie is in the front or in the rear??) ..I dunno though?

My thoughts exactly. I've seen a few in Calgary and the don't do anything for me really. But hey, I'm sure my bike doesn't do much for some people either. To each their own!

there is a place called the lot in the industrial area (where that video i posted was filmed). where they allow stunting.

ya, i looked into the 250r more and the 600's are starting to look like a better choice. so friday after work i get to go buy my helmet YAH

I came up behind one of these on my R1200C on Westside Road (a real twisty between Vernon & Kelowna). Obviously does not corner anything like a two wheeler and I had no trouble sticking to his tail. Could have passed him with little trouble except that Westside Road doesn't offer too many real safe opportunities to pass. I got the crazy stuff out of my system long ago and like to think I owe my longevity to making smarter decisions after a few close calls. Anyhow, he had to really lean his upper body into the turn, like a snowmobiler might, to compensate for the centrifugal force of cornering. Reminded me of the guys in the old sidecar races I used to watch. I also noticed he would accelerate hard out of the turn, which a bike does too, but he had to brake harder than a two wheeler prior to entering turns. Maybe fun for a while, but as you say, I didn't get the impression you'd get the same exhilaration as you do leaning a two wheeler into a turn and shaving a little paint/metal off the footpegs. I think it would get old pretty quick for me.

My son is now 11 so we are thinking of getting back into dirt bking. I almost brought this baby home last summer but the wife said............... obvious what her answer was as I previously mentioned "almost". So Our fun vehicle for now is the JCW Mini below!

So i am still looking for a bike and as of june 1st i will hopefully have the loan and a decent downpayment on a bike

my question to you guys is... did you buy your bikes new or used? i just can't justify paying $5500 for a 02 honda f4i when i can pay $8000 for a brand new zx6-r but as a first bike eveyone is warning me not to buy new cause i will get ****ed when i drop a brand new bike. but i also want to dish out the cash for the 09 zx6-r

lorenz0,

You will be ****ed if you drop a used bike also.

I find the resale on bike to be crappy at best so if you plan to get a new bike each year get used if you are going to hold onto it get new.

Its not a question of "will i drop the bike?" but "when will i drop the bike?"

i dont think any one out there who rides can say the have never droped a bike. and it doesnt matter if your bike is new or used your going to be ****ed.

I bought my first bike used, and my second new. ive had it since 04 and its worth roughly the same now as it was in 05. but way off what i paid in 04. part of the reason i hung onto it, plus i love it. and my next bike i think is going to be an aprillia mille RSV 1000 R Factory . so im going to need some scratch before i consider it.

http://www.bikewalls.com/wallpaper/Aprilia_RSV_1000_R_Factory/3129631/1024x768.html

And in IMO stay away from blackfoot. go to GW or even bow although GW is the only spot in town they actually care about customer service and decent prices. my rear tire alone installed was over $100 buck more at more than 1 shop (even where i bought it), than what i paid at gw as a first time customer.

Dont know if i can knock on bike shops here, so if not please mod

I've bought both new and used over the years. It really comes down to what you want and what's available used. If you need to be on the latest and greatest, then I guess new is your choice. If you can find what you like in a used bike, then by all means save your cash and let someone else take the depriciation hit. Though there is a bit of a high obtained from riding a shiny new bike off the dealers lot.

My most recent purchase this spring, my BMW F800GS, was brand new. However, it's also a brand new model, so used ones are non-existant yet. If I don't drop it before the years out, then I'll be suprised (maybe even disappointed). That's just part of dualsport riding; getting into challenging places where the likelihood of a drop is high. That's why its fitted with a bashplate, crashbars, hand guards and heavy duty aluminum panniers. Those items will help to protect the soft bits when it does drop. My R1100RS on the other hand is less entertaining when dropped, and it has been, but never actually when riding, just tip overs.

Got it back together for the most part now and figure I can navigate across the remains of the glacier in the alley to reach freedom. Just waiting for the temps to rise a bit more today.

I've had about 15 motorcycles in the last 30 years.

Current ride is 09 HarleyDavidson Ultraclassic, totally customized, 103 motor,255 cams, painted inner fairing, chrome forks, heated grips, and a custom 6 speaker sound system with 2 amps. I ride all year round , as long as the road is dry. ( don't like riding in the rain as it's a bitch to clean the bike)
Last ride was 08 Harly Streetglide. Won 2 show and shine trophies with that bike. Ducatis, jap bikes, sport bikes, I've had them all.

LIVE TO RIDE. People always ask if it's dangerous on a bike. You Betcha especially riding in Vancouver. My answer is Everybody Dies. Might as well do it doing what you enjoy...
