OK then, May 3rd it is.

Come one-come-all to the first ever "Hardcore Reef Geeks Get Together".

I'll volunteer being the organizer at this end and Christy can take care of things from the Island side. Those coming from the Lower Mainland or the Peninsula can be picked up at Saltery Bay as well. Anybody needing a pick up at the ferry, PM me for my phone #. ( You can save yourself $40.00 by leaving your car at the ferry and walking on.) Can fit 7 passengers in the van. Anybody who cares to stay overnight is welcome to a room at our Hotel (if there are any available). Cost per room per night: 1 frag or a Sleeman's Honey Brown. I can also take 2 overnighters at home. (spare bedroom & couch).

I'm more an addict than a geek, perhaps we can have an intervention while were at it! I call to order the first meeting of the Reefoholics.

Doesn't an intervention mean you have to stop doing whatever it is your addicted to? Cause if so I'll have to pass

No Interventions allowed. We're all happy addicts! We can invite Bruce the shark to speak: "Fish are our friends, ... NOT food."

Kind of, but it is a 12 step process and I'm still at step 1 after nearly 20 years. You know step 1 "Spend obscene amounts of money repeatedly on little glass box full of water"

besides, I don't think many of us are that addicted that we need to have an intervention http://planetsmilies.net/angel-smiley-5128.gif

Tom, would be good to have ya. You would have to catch the 9:20 from Horseshoe bay, It would connect with the 12:30 from earls cove and get you here around 1:30ish If someone from the peninsula is comming up perhaps you could carpool and save ferry fare on the return, you might want to plan an overnighter as the last conector back to the city is the 5:45

marie
04-02-2009, 03:45 AM
You could catch the 7:20 out of horseshoe bay if you can get up early enough and then it would be 10:25 at earls cove getting you here by noon

We (ReefJunkie and I) really want to come, we have pretty flexable schedules and can be available whenever as long as it is a weekend. Long weekends might not be so pretty with the ferries though. Christy what other weekend works for you?

christyf5
04-19-2009, 05:55 PM
Well really any weekend except for that one. We could do it earlier, on Apr 26 later or May 10th if we want to stay around that time

Only 12 days away!
Destination: Powell River. Ride the world famous BC ferries, and view BC's beautiful coastline. Partake in our fine Oriental dining (for Christy). Tour over 1,000 gallons of PR's finest reef tanks in three stops and only minutes apart. Anyone interested in attending please pm me for ferry times, rides, directions, etc.

(P.S. I think I'd make a pretty good travel agent.)

We've got four coming so far. Island people will probably want to catch the 10:10 ferry out of Comox which will get you here at 11:30 where I will meet you at the ferry as your personal chauffeur. Sunshine Coasters should PM me as to what ferry you will be catching.

OK, Here's the agenda. The Islanders will be getting in about 1/2 hour before the Sunshine Coasters. I will pick up the Islanders at the ferry. The Sunshine Coasters are bringin their own vehicle. We will all meet at Striker's Bar & Grill at the Bowling Alley for a get-acquainted-drink. We will then head out to see Dave's tanks, then off to Marie's and finally to my place. After the tank viewings we can go out for dinner. I will have my cell phone with me for anyone who has any questions before they arrive. PM me for my number.
Those attending are: Mrfish55 (Dave), Marie, Lance, Poontang, ChristyF5, Reef Junkie, Robyn R. There are also several others who can't commit yet but will get back to me soon.

OK, here's the agenda:
Christy will be catching the 10:10am ferry at Comox. She will arrive here at about 11:30am where I will pick her up (and any other Islanders who can make it). (Whiteice669 is bringing his own wheels :car: ) We will all meet at Striker's Bar & Grill for a get-acquainted drink or two:drinking: while we wait for RobynR and Reefjunkie who will arrive a little later from the Sunshine Coast. Then, when we're all here, it's off to Dave's to see his wonderful 300gal reef, and in-progress seahorse tank. From there to Marie's amazing reef tanks, where Doofus is eagerly awaiting our visit. (Feel free to bring him a Big Mac for his lunch). Then on to my 90gal corner reef and 225gal reef. Then we can visit our LFS to meet Bob the owner. (I'm trying to set up one more tank viewing with another Powell Riverite but haven't heard back yet)
After the tank tour it's time for some sight-seeing, food & drink :hungry::drinking:, interesting conversation, more drink :drinking: and finally some more drink :drinking:.

PS: PM me for my phone # if you don't have it already, for directions, or any questions you may have. :cell:

Now you guys have me worried that you will be disappointed.

In the past I've been limited to what JL posts on their new and noteworthy page for my coral choices. I'm pretty sure everyone already has the corals I have in my tank (with the exception of the 2 new frags from oceanic) and I have cooties to boot...but sure your welcome to hack away

Thought I would throw this out there... I am fragging a rainbow monti colony today and can bring a few pieces up to the reef meet. The piece has lost some color but with lots of light it comes back quickly. So...I'm gonna say for free or trade for a little something. Pieces will be freshly fragged and not mounted.
