[rant]Seriously, what the heck? You're either selling it or you're not, what's the whole "gauging interest" bs about anyway huh???[/end rant]

Why even try selling something if no one is interested in it?

Obviously not a hobby in this case, as much as a sales potential. :)

But I understand (and agree) with your rant. For many reasons that I'm just too lazy to type out....

At first I as feeling the same way as myka, but being that I am trying to decide if it is time to buy one of those high end T5 units, I could see me guaging interest on my current tek unit to better figure out what my cost for the new unit would be if I was to sell my current unit. I guess it helps justify the spending for the new equipment when the sale of the current one would be like a discount going towards the new one.

So when you guys say "guaging interest" you're wondering if someone will pay what you're asking? Is that the deal? I just don't see the point in putting "guaging interest" ...why not just post a price, and see if it sells? I think it's just pointless when almost all of the "guaging interest" threads end in a sale. And it seems like the new in thing around here too.

Well I think having the gauging interests is a good way to feel that if someone is looking to buy a complete system. i have seen lost of people put their system on for sale and people will lowball them asking to part out. and then the seller ends up parting out and in the end having parts of equipment that he can't sell. having the gauging thing is a personnel issue. If a person wants to put it in there its thier option.....

Little off topic here but whatever. I have upgraded from a 75 to a 112 and am going diving next weekend for some new denizens.

IMO........who cares. If guaging interest bothers you people so much don't read the post. Pretty simple I think.

It's just kinda stupid is all. Besides, half the guaging interest threads have a price listed, so wtf?

Off topic...but doesn't the word "guaging" look funny when you type it out? Or have we all been spelling it wrong? I know my puter thinks it's spelled wrong.

EDIT: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gauging Here I thought they were guages not gauges in my car...? Huh...learn something new everyday.

because at one point there was nothing for sale on the board, it was "guaging interest" for everything, I don't see the point in it... If you want to sell a complete system, say "complete system for sale, $xxxx.xx" If you want to get xxxx.xx and not a penny less then you don't have to sell it for less. To me guaging interest means your thinking about selling something not selling, so maybe we should have a "guaging interest" section in the buy and sell area

So then you 'get it'...

People are thinking of selling something. Trying to make a decision based on response but not committing to anything. Its really quite simple and really dumb for anyone to actually care about whether the term is used or not.

Yeah I could care less personally. What harm does it cause?
