Make your own heatsink. Its cheaper and easy to do.

You have to build your own heatsink. Head out to metal supermarkets (http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/nonUS/) and pick up a 'slab' of aluminium. Buy some 90 degree 1 x 1 angle aluminium and mount them to the slab. Just drill and tap or just use self tapping screws. Make sure you put a thin layer of dielectric (looks like white grease) in between the 2 pieces.

It'll be cheaper this way as a real heatsink that size will cost you a fortune.

The aluminium is sold by the pound.

or you can buy this from ebay..........http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HEATSINK-ALUMINUM-EXTRUSION-LARGE-7-29-WIDE_W0QQitemZ170315431651QQihZ007QQcategoryZ29402 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem for $50USD / foot whichincludes shipping charges to Canada.

Good luck

check with a scrap yard, alot of industrial electronics use huge heatsinks and they get sold to the scrap dealer if the device breaks.
I think i have one huge heatsink at work that is in our scrap bin probably 24" X 40" with 6" fins.

just build your own. use 90 deg angle of u channel.

at 170$ / foot, might as well buy the pfo led light system pre-built.

tell what you decide to do

i will be placing my orders for power supply, drivers, luxeon led and some cree led for a DIY array for my 40glns reef next week.
i will be detailing the progress in the DIY section.
i have been testing some of them in the past month.
i love the colour i get from the royal blue and whites.

the pfo led light system is out of business and you can build one for half the price.

with MH problem, temperature control, bulb replacement every 8mth, high bill, not the output colour i like.

LED array is going to replace total lighting in my reef.
i will be posting everything starting next week, there are few companies i am looking at for best rates.
for starters the purchase is going to be pricey but cheap in the long run.
there are few good posts to read on LED setup at http://www.nano-reef.com/ of course under Lighting Forum (http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showforum=25) read:evil:66 LED guide:biggrin:

heres a couple companies i will do business with
www.heatsinkusa.com/ (http://www.heatsinkusa.com/)
http://www.futureelectronics.com/
http://www.advancetransformer.com/
http://www.arrownac.com/

Elias,

how is your LED setup coming along ?

I'm now considering (planning - feasibility review) this setup for me new 200g reef tank. Really like the idea of being able to change the lighting by altering the pulse 1/2 pulse giving you 50% light.

What are the dimensions of your nano tank ??

How many LED's are you using ?? Are you using the CREE's ?? Which one will you be using ?

From a light spectrum prespective - will all the LED's be white or a combination of white and blue ?? How do you achieve the proper balanace ?? I using 10K to 14K MH in my 120g tank now.

How effective is the light emitted from the LEDs ?? Is the light just effective at the bottom of the tank ....say 30" as compared to the top of the tank ??

Thanks.

iam at work now so bare with me ohhh i am bored out of my mind:biggrin:
well i have been waiting for deals from suppliers and trying to figure what power supply to go with.
now that its all done.
everything i ordered is on the way max waiting time is 10 days cannot wait in the mean time i have few cree led that i have been playing with.
the dimentions for my heat sink will be 7.5" wide by 26" long for starters i will be placing 40 royal blue at 575mW@1A and 20 cool white 6500K 220lm at 1A
i like the deep ocean colour as it will be at that for the sunrise and sunset.
yes i could setup to give me the proper balance that suites me and of course the corals.thats done by a potentiometer variation from 350MA to 1000MA brightness for every series of coloures or individual colour of LED.
without the lense on the led my tank will be able to sustain life of sps lps and softies even at the base given that the depth of my tank is 20"
to reach deeper you could always place lenses over your LED that ranges fron 22degree angle to 60degree angle.
mine is at 120degree angle.
i hope i answered most of your question.of course i will be detailing all this with photos and videos later.

YES its expensive but i am sure it will pay of at the end.
cheers
