Well, I finally decided to produce a Journal of my 46 galon bowfront.
In fact this journal will take you back in time...showing all..the good the bad and very ugly..

August 2007- Fluval 404 and 303 canister filters...hmmm not a good idea, without constant cleaning...this tank had been running since 2000 in one form or another as a marine fish and live rock only tank.

October 2007- Addition of the Superskimmer (Aka: Stupid skimmer)
http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo81/jp_ryanAC/Oct2007.jpg

There are some missing pictures from this time period.. some artists have blue periods, but I had a hairy period...this was it. Purchased dead liverock and it bloomed into some of the most brilliant green hair algae I have ever seen..hence my user name..

August 2008- Addition of a sump and Tek 4x39 T5 fixture and Aquamedic T1000 protein skimmer.

Yes, it is amazing, but I always have to ask why does that growth have to be sooo painful and darn expesive...haha

I must say, I owe alot to Kevin and Doug of Red Coral. They have helped me get on the right track.

Unfortunately the Zoas are all gone from the previous posting...someone had an expensive snack..at first I thought it was the Foxface, but the other day I spotted a 3" emerald crab...Hmmm

Then there was the windex incident. Things seem to be getting their colour back, but I did have some damage to the green monti cap and the yellow (?) on the right.

OK, figured out what ate ALLof my zoas and was taking chunks out of various other corals...
A BFC...Big Fargen Crab..
It is 2.5" wide and 0.75" thick....

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo81/jp_ryanAC/BFC2.jpg

It came out the other night when I was feeding...this was a quarter size "emerald crab" I put in about 6 months ago..and I hadn't seen it for about 2 months..

I am thinking it must go???

Not a mithrax crab Aaron.....Mithrax have "Hairy" legs.....youve got something else there.

Hairytank
05-07-2009, 11:16 PM
Yes, it looks like it ready to pounce! It kinda looks like the predator from the movie Predator, with those beady eyes and patchy coloured head..

I bought it as a "emerald crab", but the "emeraldness" begins and finishes with the crab being green...then again I also bought a peppermint shrimp from the same store and it wasn't really as advertised either.

Now, I know better than to buy from anywhere other than RC...

The trick will be getting the bugger out without loosing my rockwork or a finger..

Those darn crabs. I just found one in our display that was about 2" but it wasn't green at all, it was kind of a brownish orange with orange spots on it. I also had disappearing zoas. Some very pretty green ones--- a rock about 3" x 2" x 2" covered in them, and another with some pretty pink ones about 2" x 2" x 2". But we got the little beggar. I was told it was a box crab. Asides from that, really nice progression on your tank. Nice size, too.
