As a continuation of Wicked's Mustang thread and in an effort to not hijack it I thought it would be cool to have a thread where the gear heads can post there pics of what they have. There seems to be a quite few of us here.
I'll start, here's my 97 Sonoma
List of mods:
Full Air Ride Suspension with six link rear setup
Body Dropped
Shaved tail lights / gas door / third break light / full grant fab skin on the back with L.E.D's
Tubbed firewall for wheel clearance
All the work done my me.

My 1991 Chev Camaro...sold it but still was an amazing car. It was lowered with hydraulics, new wing, wheels, custom colors on engine etc, and one heck of a stereo with Rockford Fosgate...ahhh to be a kid again. I bought it off the lot in 1991 and modded it in 1995-1996. It started white and I repainted it...white. I liked it! Yes, I'm a girl, and yep I helped with EVERYTHING other than the hydraulic install.

Been a real good car so far I am getting over 700 K on a tank of gas 800 if I realy pussy foot it and that is a good thing when you have a 100 k round trip to work every day.

Bah! A Golf? I still hear "blah blah blah not a VW".
In all fairness though, I hear you. I've owned 6 water-cooled veedubs. Two were the worst cars I've ever owned (although when working when the funnest damn cars ever, one was a GTI, and one was a Passat). Two were the best cars I ever owned (another Passat, which died horribly in a head-on highway collision in BC that amazed all witnesses that anyone walked away from, so it died with honour at least) and another GTI which died horribly after being stolen.
But since I thought this was a sort of "toy car" thread I was just sorta disappointed to see no mention of vintage 'dubs like Beetles or my personal favourite, Karmann Ghia ragtops. If I had the garage space and if I didn't already waste all my cash on reefing I'd have one or a couple of these ... However I do sort of find the hobbies to be mutually exclusive. I spend FAR too much on the tanks to have a car affliction as well. Kudos to all you guys and gals who've found a way to do both... :)

Alas Greg, no, no vintage right now (no VW's for that matter even). My dream project is a '71 KG though. Although a nice split screen bus with pop top would be a lot of fun too, except the problem of having it blow away in the wind if I try to take it out to Canmore or something.

You ever go to the clubveedub site? I don't really post there but I lurk a lot. I was looking to buy a beetle last fall but then the whole economy started taking the downward spiral. There's a hot rod/body shop in Stavely (near Nanton) and the guy there worked on my Merc. I don't know where he found it, but I got a call a couple of weeks ago saying "I think there's a car here you'll want to buy" So I headed down there a few days ago and voila

Hey VFX. I have also tended towards the German cars and have driven all the brands at one time or another. My rebuild will be done by myself and a buddy of mine who is a tech at MCL and also does alot of custom VW/show car stuff as well. He is very talented. I dealt with Weissach at one point and liked the folks there. However, they were expensive and tended to charge book rate. I moved over to Scan Automotive in North Van and was quite happy with them. But having a buddy who can do it for me will save me a bundle on labour which would probably be 80% of the cost. We are also going to do some customizing during the process. We have had the intake and valve covers powder coated and we will use alot of nice stainless fasteners. Upgrading all the vacuum line to silicone and I have made some custom gauge faces and am upgrading some of the cabin lighting to LEDs.
BTW, love the boxsters. it's a great roaster. Have you driven the Cayman? I got to drive a Cayman S on an autocross course and it was a blast. Then had a professional race driver take me for a lap to see what it could really do :-)
hey Ron
Sounds like your 928 is gonna be real nice!
You're so lucky having a Porsche tech as a buddy. If I had that I would probably save myself at least $1000 a year!
It's cost me $1200 for a service & fluid change, $1000 for front rotors & pads & $120 for a set of locking bolts already this year and it's only March! But they did give me one of their trucks to drive whilst the work was being done.
My 987 is totally stock. It's probably the slowest car Porsche make (I don't count the truck!) but it's totally awesome to drive. Especially when the sun's out.
I drove the Cayman S & I was blown away. I think with the '09 model being available with LSD it's probably the best handling current Porsche. I'd love to have one but my want for a convertible took over.
Do you go out for Porsche meets with PCA Vancouver or any other club?
Any more Porsche owners on Canreef?
.

03-25-2009, 12:02 AM
Hi VFX,
I think the 928 will be great as my friend does fantastic work. If I took it in to a shop I would probably be looking at $1000 to $1500 in parts and $4000 or $5000 in labour. That's just not in the budget right now! I am hoping we won't need many new parts. Depends on how many valves may have bent when the timing belt slipped. But it was idling in the garage when it happened so hopefully its not too bad. We haven't pulled it all apart yet to see.
I also generally order all my parts from the US. Even with shipping etc. it's way cheaper than Porsche Canada prices. When I had to do front brakes 4 years ago I think they wanted $600 or so for each front rotor. I upgraded to the larger Big Red type front brakes by ordering a kit from the US. It was front calipers, rotors pads, wear sensors etc for about USD $1200. Sold the old calipers on eBay for $150 so that offset my costs too.
I haven't really been to many PCA events. Just once to the Whistler get together. I do go to alot of vintage races on the West Coast and I made the trek to the Rennsport reunion in 2007 at Daytona. That was an amazing gathering of Porsche racing cars. I think I took close to 4000 pictures. Rumour has it they may try to bring it to the West Coast in 2010.

still looking for my DREAM DREAM car....1953 BMW Convertible, black with tan interior..
Like this one, but driveable:

Ron - good luck with the engine build. That V8 seems quite complex but it looks like it's in good hands.
Give me a shout if you're headed out to any races, meets or cruises. As long as I'm not working I'll be up for it.
I should look into getting parts from the US more often.
Rbacchiega - That '53 BMW looks fantastic. I also love the 507 roadster from around that era.
I've always loved old Beemers.
I saw these on Granville Island last summer... not quite as vintage but still nice.

Ya I might have to settle on a R33 with an R34 body kit and the RB26DETT engine. Or an RX7 with the Fortune body kit (Orange and black car on Tokyo Drift).

I thought the import law has already changed? Also can you find that RX7 Body Kit anymore? Last I heard it was long discontinued.
Ya there is a couple kicking around but with an $11,000 price tag its worth more than the car its going on.

They changed the rules for importation from the U.S so it is now a bit easier to import cars from south of the border (no more bumper modifications needed). AFAIK the other rule for anything 15 years and older is the same.

it was a bumper issue but alot of car's were black listed because of it and illegal in canada (eg VW r32, mitsubishi evo's) only way before to get around this was to wait till they were 15 years old.
The changing in importation laws from anywhere but the US has been up in the air for years due to the increase of japan imports presence. This law has not changed and if they were to change it, it would be changed to 25 years instead of 15 years. But some importers have found loop holes in the usa to get around the 25 year rule, which is why people are driving nissan s15 silvia's and r34 skylines.
Ya I might have to settle on a R33 with an R34 body kit and the RB26DETT engine. Or an RX7 with the Fortune body kit (Orange and black car on Tokyo Drift).
I am in the same boat waiting for the S15 spec R to be legal which is still 5 years away. Don't settle with the r33, was the worst skyline ever produced. I would take a r32 gtr over a r33 gtr any day.
Ya I heard about those R33s I see they make a R34 Body Kit for the R32 but for the money I think by the time you swap out the engines and throw a mody kit on there just buy somthing else and AM parts the hell out of it.
Catherine....I almost got permission to buy another mini.....I was so close...but then it sold. I was looking at this beautiful '79 mini one hour south of Calgary last Saturday. $3000. I would have bought it right there and then. I had a feeling my wife was going to let me for my birthday (May 4th), but the seller informed me that it has been sold today. It is a sad day!

well all the gtr's run the rb26dett which is a great motor but sadly they all have problems with the oil pump. which in turn fails and it's time for a new motor. with the gts models they came with a rb20det in the r32's and rb25det in the r33 and r34 which is a great motor and has huge potential.
but you are refering to the bee-r r32.4 front end swap which is absolutely gorgous. There is actually one roaming around in alberta up in edmonton and a few in BC
and also Weissach in Vancouver had a r34 gt-r for sale. no idea how but its not on their site anymore

Here's a pic of one of my mustangs, It's a '78 Cobra I picked up a couple of years ago as a parts car. It was so rare and unusual I decided to restore it back to original instead. It's a factory 4cyl car and with the green stripe package it's believed less than 100 were made.

Yeah, to much tolerance for crap from teens these days. I actually followed some dumb a$$ into his high school. He was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic and passing in the oncoming traffic's lane on a fairly rainy day. In the end I think he got to his school about 30 seconds quicker. I followed him in and gave him an earful. The Vice Principal was outside and came over so I told him what had happened and he said he would speak to the kid and his parents. Don't know if he did but I'm tired of Canadian apathy. I see teens heading in and out of the high school driving like idots all the time. People need to speak up and do something when we see stupidity. living on the west coast I see alot of really dumb driving. Not sure why but it seems to be a west coast thing :-(

I don't have any digital pics of our '69 Impala convertible
Thought this thread needs another pic, so I scanned one from the late '80s, back when our Impala was still in great shape
In the pic there's a weird mark on the driver's door, but it's just a photo thingy
And I didn't much like the Cragar Mags
Deep burgandy paint, black top, dash, console and carpets, white buckets and panels. Wood-grain inserts here and there, map light, but no SS stuff
300HP 350 w/Turbo 350 and (I think) a 273 Diff does (did) 60MPH in first and 90MPH in second :whoo: Scared the hell outta my Dad first time I took him for a ride
The guy who ordered this new was a bit out there I'd say
He died in '76 and Donna got it for $1800 from his parents :surprise:
Unfortunately it now needs a total frame-off, but it's still around and is mostly all original
And ya, the trunk can probably hold 6 or 8 bodies
