Could I have some opinions on whether or not it is good to use a substrate for an sps coral reef tank?

Fishnut,

What exactly are you looking to find out? By substrate do you want to know what others use? and/or recommend?

I myself have a 5 inch Deep Sand Bed in my 33. and will do the same in my new tank. It is a mix of sugar sand and a few other grades of sand to have a good mix.

Thanks DJ88.

I have received 2 opposite opinions - use no substrate for best results, and use a DSB - it's the only way to go.

I am looking for what has worked for other reefers, and what they recommend, with the hopes that I will be able to make an informed decision, using info from hobbyists (who do not want to sell me something, unlike others who have given me advice).

Fishnut, the only time I would use no substrate is if I had a large sump that could hold a DSB. And then I would still use *some* sand in the main display.
