Bryopsis, Bryopsis, Bryopsis. Need I say more.

It does look as if I am winning.. albeit very slowly. So far I have decrease the temp in the tank to 75-78 degrees to slow down growth, removed some of the worst offenders(Live rock) as far as growth goes and tried shutting the lights off, kalk paste seemed to work but I had to worry about getting it on any corals in the tank. It looks as if I will lose at least my birdsnest and my gorgonian isn't looking too hot. :( :mad:

Man o man.. never let this stuff get ahold of your tank. I may just buy all new LR for the new 45 so I don't have to worry about it getting in there.

Sigh.. just had to vent..

Are there ways to not let it get ahold, that a person could be especially diligent in implementing? Being new to all this, the stuff has me nervous.

Read of some others' trials with the same problem. Sounds nasty, but is it fairly common?

Well I thought I had managed to save myself from the scurge of bryopsis but unfortunately my original diagnosis of hair algae has proved incorrect (although I do think I have some of that too). I took a look at Darrens tank yesterday and it would appear that I have a bryopsis problem as well. Now I am really determined to kick this thing in the butt. Dang, I should get a decent picture of bryopsis on the web so people will know what it is. there is a crappy one that I used to diagnose my "hair algae" and never in my wildest dreams did I think that it was bryopsis. Ugh. How depressing.

That is my stuff.. I don't let it get that long tho. ;) I have had hair algea fights, and cyano. This is the worst..

It is tough to pull out. It isn't slimy like other stuff. :(

I have yet to hear of a tang that will eat Bryopsis. Take a read on RC and you will probably find 99% won't. The only creature I have heard of that will eat it is the Lettuce Sea Slug. And those are very delicate little cratures. I had two and they aren't long lived. One of mine grew to about 4" long before it passed on. That is from just over 2" when I introduced it.
