ok to start with now that you have the rock and the water going wait 8 weeks with the lights on and the pumps running see if you can find any life on the new rock
you see the biggest thing with a salt tank is patients with bigger tanks it takes longer to cycle so now you have to wait or you will have lots of expencif problems

Turn your lights off during the cycle to prevent excess algae blooms. Take a peek at the Guide in my signature for gettign started. :)

IMO if you keep the lights off while cycling you will lose a lot of interesting encrusting growth. At least if the rock is fresh, if it's 'cured' then chances are there won't be any interesting encrusting growth. Other than coralline ;)

I left my lights on and glad that I did. I got several types of corals that survived and have been growing ever since, nothing major, but I think they would have likely died had the lights been kept off.

Never had a massive algae bloom either, had a brief diatom outbreak that lasted about a week, followed by a small hair algae outbreak that lasted 2-3 weeks, nothing major and it all went away.
