I was recently going through my collection of pictures(1000+) of my saltwater tanks and thought it might be cool to see other peoples evolution in the hobby.
I'll start.I personally started with a sumpless 20g.

Then upgraded to my current tank, a 110g display/55g sump.

This is embarrassing.
Early 2006 I built a peninsula upstairs. Late 2006 I began building a 400 gallon downstairs and moved the ~70 gallon (which never looked that great to begin with) down as well so I could reno the main floor. I haven't had anything living in a tank since late 2006. The 400 was cut apart and sold (I filled it once to leak test) and the wall torn down to sell the house.
Check out that sweet ro/di feed to my sump!

Christy, I noticed you got rid of all your M. caps? Also where were all your corals in the pic with all the algae?
My caps were munched on by some montipora eating flatworms. I did take them out to treat them but then couldn't fit them back in. Several were just too far gone as well. I kept frags though, they're in there somewhere.
The pic with the algae was dinoflagellates and caulerpa. For most of that year I battled the war with these two algaes. The dinoflagellates would smother everything, I would siphon, lights out, high pH whatever I could think of. I'd finally get rid of them, then the caulerpa would proliferate and I'd go in and prune it. They'd release some sort of substance (I was told it was caulerpines) and the dinos just loved it and they would go to town once again. In the midst of this I lost every coral I had except for the pink pavona and yellow porites which I still have, as the algaes would just smother them out. It was a horrible year and I didn't get rid of the dinoflagellates until I restarted the tank with no sand.

My evolution is ALL over the map.
May 2008: 54G sumpless... this tank never saw anymore life than a few hermit crabs. Not 1 snail, not 1 coral, not 1 fish.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/JDigital/54G%20Reef%20Tank/Reef7.jpg
June 2008: The 54G soon became the sump of my 1st attempt at a my 75G. Tore this 75 apart about 2 months later.

Mid 2008: I had my 20G going while the 1st attempt on the 75 was tore down.

Sept-Oct 2008: The rebuild of my 75G took place.

Your install is beautiful Mark. A real shame about the bad run of luck but obviously you're capable and will have it looking as good again. Your stand with the 3 pockets underneath...exactly what I had planned to to only I was going to have two pockets and use the same tile I did but in the pockets as well. If I were you I'd buy a few sch 80 elbows and swap out those returns as they stick out quite a bit.
Hmmm...they did. I see they're fairly encrusted now =)

Well, it all started in 2002 when my wife suggested getting a "little" aquarium. Well we jumped right in with a 90 gallon with trickle filter from the bargain finder. It sat on cinder blocks. No picture of this tank.
Then we soon upgraded in a few months with this tank (it's the only picture that I have of this tank) 150 gallon 48 x 24 x 30 tall. I built the canopy out of a sunshine ceiling thingee and outfitted it with 2 x 400watt radiums. Visible fuge. It was a great set up.

Soon after running this tank we sold our piano and put a 180 gallon in place of the piano. I have no picture of this tank. It had a moving 150 watt halide across the 6 feet of the tank and vho's. It was mainly a predator/softie tank. One of our favourite tanks.
Then later that year we bought a 7 gallon nano (no pictures). It had a mantis shrimp in which we found in our 150 gallon tank.
After that we bought a 46 gallon bowfront. I put a 400 watt halide over that sucker and plumbed it to the basement.

This is what it was hooked up to in the basement:

And some of the inhabitants:

Then we sold everything cause we moved and planned to set up again right away, but kids happened. Was out of the hobby for about 4 1/2 years and now am back into it with this:

There will be no upgrading for me now. I am quite happy with my 5 x 2 x 2 tank and just excited to see it grow daily.
So....... it is the truth - MY WIFE GOT ME INTO THE HOBBY. (I don't know if she regrets it yet)

Need an explanation of what's going on here.
Either you guys were the tiniest team in the league or your coach did not go unnoticed in a crowd!

Let it go Brett...
Besides, I don't think that's the coach, the coach is in the back row of the normal sized people wearing black if I'm not mistaken. I think, although I am just speculating here, that is a rather large child kneeling behind the coach. Hard to tell because they couldn't fit his head in the photo. Or else the photo of the photo got cut off but I like to think they couldn't fit him in.

Lol. Its just my daughters soccer team photo. Instead of doing separate photos of the team and the player they super-impose one onto the other. Kinda neat in person actually.

Thanks man. Lol. Just thought it was amusing. I'll bet the kids love that!
