OK...I feel pretty dumb asking this but dispite my constant reading I'm finding it difficult to get a straight forward answer. My question is, how necessary is it to feed soft corals? I know that most will take care of themselves through photosynthesis, but what about ones like kenya trees that do feed partially... In a skimmerless system can they thrive without pysically feeding them?

soft corals like brains should be fed 1 a week if possible same with duncans, elegance and so forth basically if you can see their mouth they should be fed, light is not enough now with the exception of sun corals and gorgs which should be fed daily. Kenya anthelia xenia mushrooms IMO feed off particles in the water. mysis, brine is too large and besides they probally feed on phyto and even smaller micro orginisms. Hope that helps.

Here's a link to Live Aquaria. Just click on the coral you are interested in and they usually give a good review of whats required to take care of that particular coral.
Hope this helps
