Hi!
I am new here! I am usually on forum from the US and I am glad I finally found this forum!
I am from Yellowknife and currently have a small 25 gallon reef tank with some RBTA, various soft coral, one torch coral, a clown fish and 2 yellow tail damsel.
I have been keeping freshwater planted tank for over 10 years and decided to give a try to saltwater a few years ago.

BTW, it there anyone from Yellowknife here?

Great! someone from the north! I feel a little lonely up here. The local fish store do not want to carry saltwater stock so there is no much people to share with.
BTW, how do you get live stock up there?

Welcome to Canreef Patrice!

Haven't been to Yellowknife in about 20 years but I do remember how I felt it was one of the friendliest places I've ever been to..until about 11:00 pm (then the rowdies come out) Was there doing some work at Giant Mine.

Do they still have the signs downtown "NO MOTORIZED TOBOGGAN PARKING"? I still chuckle about those:lol:.

HI!!!!

ANOTHER YKer!! I grew up in Yellowknife, moved away when I was 16 ('97) and was back from '99 to '01... I actually used to work at JJ Hobbies, is it still the only LFS up there?? We didn't carry any SW then but were able to order stuff in if you would pick it up the day it came in - no holding facilities!!

I don't miss the winters but I do miss the people! It's a great community, how long have you been there for?

Hi!
I have been here for the last 8 years. Maybe we meet . Yes JJHobbies is still the only store.
They tried to keep SW last year but gave up after to many lost. They also told me there is no money to make out of SW. I don't know what to say to that.

I think YK is a big enough city that if they were to bring in the supplies and make it available to more people that it would go over well. Did you bring the stock you currently have from down south?

Patrice

I orther most from Aquarium Illusion in Edmonton. I would preffer to orther from an online store where I can see the stock and prizes but for now it's fine.

The only problem is the cost of shipping with canadian north. It's insane.

Yeah, I remember how crazy the prices were for us to bring in fish....and you had to cross your fingers that they wouldn't leave the boxes out on the tarmac too long at -40

Patrice

Yeah I know. This is why I use to do this myself. I usually don't have any problem as long as I take arrangement to get my box the same night it arrive.

I will give a try and get some new shails from JJHobbies sometime this months.

Welcome to Canreef! I spent a few years in Fort McPherson and the only thing I remember is the cold. :D That was over 30 years ago though.
