Any Fly Fishers?

Any Reefers/FOWLRs that are Fly Fishers as well? Bamboo? Fly Tyers?

the first time and only time i ever tried to fly fish i caught 2 pink's:mrgreen:

lots of fun thinking about getting myself a fly rod before summer

i tryed to tie some flies for fun did a few good ones, but gave them away to some family that do some fly fishing

its deffenetly fun when you hook into a good size pink salmon ad fighting him for a few mins:razz:

I say I am but I only got out 4 times this past season...

When time permits I'm mostly on the Bow, Crowsnest or Old Man in Alberta. Fished the Elk River in B.C. once, fantastic.

I only have graphite and haven't tried bamboo. I break too many graphite through truck or feet mishaps to even really consider bamboo...

I tie sometimes, nothing exotic, just to replenish basic streamers, nymphs and drys. My kids love tying more than I do (7 and 10) and their messy Wooly Bugger caught them a decent rainbow this past summer.

I'm basically a trout fisherman but I am keeping an eye on steelhead and salmon fishing rods (preferably bamboo) and reels . One day soon I'll be out there casting away.

I still have some graphite rods but now I guess I'm retro'ing - sort of want to get to the essence of "it". Nice to catch trout on flies you've tied.
I bet your boys were tickled blue by catching a fish on a fly they tied.
I heard it said that the second most sold book after the bible was "The Compleat Angler", 1st ed. 1653. Fisherman. Fish. Fly fisherman. Imagine that.

When you get to your vehicle place your rod between your drivers side window wiper blade and the windshield (unless you have a boat rack on your roof). But the most safest bet is to disassembled and pack away you rod before you do anything else. Ya, I know. Been there, done that. I'm exceptionally more carefull now with bamboo rods.

Yes, big time fly fishing, fly tying and rod building being done around here when I'm not doing fish tank chores.

The big rainbows in the Bow are way more fun to catch than the big browns. Also bamboo rods are NOT a pleasure to fish with

I've been fishing the Bow for 20+ years, building rods (just graphite) and fly tying.
Did a bit of guiding years ago and still have my driftboat but I haven't done much rowing since my neck surgery.
Last year on our honeymoon in Costa Rica I released my holy grail, a 200 lb. Blue Marlin on a 14 weight with 20 lb. tippet.
My legs are still shaking. (from the fish):biggrin:
