My clownfish are laying eggs RIGHT NOW!!

I'm SO stupidly excited lol

I'll try to get some pics (unfortunately the glass isn't clean right in front of them and i don't want to disturb them by running the magnet over it)

Sadly they will be fish food. I wasn't expecting this at all, I was actually planning on moving everything from this tank into the 120g and now I dunno what I'll do. I would make a go of it if Ihad proper phyto/rotifer cultures to feed them and more time but I don't think that'll happen. Maybe eventually, I always like to see more captive-bred stuff out there!

Very cool they should hatch in about a week. They will hatch just when they turn a silvery color at night. Now you won't be able to put your hand in the tank. The female I have is real mean and attacks me all the time.

Atta-go Keri! Nice pics.
Have they attacked you yet?

Keri

ha ha....

I'm using a Nikon D40 just on the macro setting, it's the lens that came with it. Pretty much everything set to auto.

They have not attacked me yet! I'm pretty suprised actually, they are still mellow, I like to feed my fish by hand. We'll see if that changes!!

At what point do people usually take the fry out to raise them? (before or after hatching) It's SO tempting but I really doubt my local LFS has a rotifer culture lol... Who am I kidding, I don't have the time!!

You have to take them out just before they hatch or you can siphon them before they end up in your sump. Then aerate them until they hatch that night. I have 3 mated pairs but am still waiting for eggs.
Keep an eye out when they turn silvery they should hatch that night.

Keri

Cool! I don't run a sump on this tank but no doubt they will be sucked into various PHs and hungry mouths.

Maybe next time I'll just bring 'em to you :)

Well, it seems like my LMB was less of a voyeur and more of a gourmand... Half of the eggs are missing and I'm blaming the biggest pig in the tank!! It's still pretty neat tho, even in just one day the eggs look different, more oval

Hey Keri!!!

That's too exciting, congratulations!!!!

Sorry for the late response, I haven't been on for a weeee bit

So are the eggs all gone as of late tonight or are some still around? They're adorable! Btw....great shots with the D40 girl!!! I'm proud of you!!!!!

How's your gorgeous new tank coming? I can't wait to see pictures of it up and running!

Guess what?!?!?!? We have our newest system up and running FINALLY!!!! We took some pics along this VERY :surprise:looooooooooooong process....we're only a YEAR behind...one of these days we'll have to take the time to post our pics. First it was a set back in the cabinet being built, then our sump (that we purchased and was having held at the store was sold....we had already paid for it) then we had to wait for a new sump to be custom built (thankfully the guy who sold it agreed to have one made for us), then we searched for someone who would build us our custom tank ...and then I became quite ill in April and everything came to a grinding hault until recently....however, here we are, with it all up and running in a cycling process! I can't wait to move all the floridas over.....the other tank we'll use strickly for yumas.

Cheers!
Sarina

S.D. :)

Half of the eggs are left, mom and dad are very attentive of them, cleaning and fanning and poring over but not aggressive at all, I put my hand in beside with no problems so the eggs will likely be all gone soon, still neat to see.

I still suck with the camera but I still haven't read the booklet either lol

I'm glad your system is finally up and running!! I look forward to pics and seeing it in person sometime!!

They look like very attentive parents....I'm sure now that they've got the hang of "it" LOL ;) you'll see more and more batches.

Well, for not reading the book yet you're doing awesome...what a natural!!!!

Absolutely, I'm looking forward to you coming over for a visit...it'll be great...I have some goodies for your new tank!!!!

....anyone know where to get rotifers in the future? It kinda breaks my heart a little to know they'll get eaten, even if I take them out I don't have anything to feed them.

So the eggs dissapeared on night 7 (hatched and eaten I'm assuming) and now, a couple of days later there are MORE than ever! Is this going to keep happening over and over? Is it ok for the fish?

I don't know if it is ok for the fish or not but mine lay eggs pretty much every 10 days although a couple of times they had a second batch going on day 5
