So is it going to stop eventually?? Jeeebus. I am not a happy camper. The D-D stuff was hard as rock too, not nice at all to work with. I've always used the cheaper Holdfast brand in the past (http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/store_pages/product-info.php?product_ID=mc-hfast ) and this has never happened with that stuff. In fact, I only bought the D-D because I was out of Holdfast, and apparently D-D is the only epoxy Gold Aquariums carries. I'll be sure to tell Dennis about this next time I'm in. This stuff is junk.

Eww. Holdfast is even worse, in my opinion. It just crumbles and DOESN'T stick...like trying to use scotch tape to hold down your coral.

I don't get why we can't get a @$#%& stick of epoxy that actually works, and DOESN'T send the tank into a frenzy. We can go to the moon, switch inner organs and clone sheep. But nooooo....a stick of epoxy that works is just too hard.

Meh.

See? I feel your frustration :)

P.S. Your skimmer will stop....eventually. At least it's not hanging on the back of your tank, in a carpeted living room :( *relives bad memory*...

Weird. I never had the green stick stuff go crumbly on me. Bad batch maybe? For me it kneads into a bubble gum consistency. Now mind you, it's totally not sticky, but I don't think it's meant to be. :neutral:

But yeah. Wow. This is fun. Kicked off some carbon in there for now and hopin' for the best. Sheeesh.

Try the AquaStik Epoxy Putty by Two Little Fishies. I get it from O/A. It's not great but a lot better than that D/D crap and others I have tried.

I use the holdfast, up to a full tube at once, and have never had a problem of any type. No foam, it's easy to work with (no, it doesn't stick, it isn't supposed to). It's a filler, not a glue. But no issues, ever.

I use the DD stuff. I always get the coralline color though. Last time OA was out and I got the grey stuff. Its total crap. I ended up chucking it out as well. Never had the issues with the skimmer though. Now I'm back to the purple stuff and its fine. Weird.

i always use Tunze two part epoxy, because i had the same issues with DD.

I think I've used the D-D coraline stuff before and did not have skimmer issues with it. Although I seem to recall I could barely knead the stuff into a workable glop either.

Next time if the store doesn't have the Holdfast I'm not buying whatever they have instead... (I might try this Aquastick if I remember to order it next time I buy something from OA. Or if I see it locally somewhere..)

Like Aquattro, I've used up pretty much an entire stick of Holdfast in the past and never had anything like this happen. I just wish I hadn't have run out of it last night..

Tony we sell the Holdfast (which I have had negative feedback) and we also sell the D&D coraline eproxy ( which we have not had a problem with and had positive feedback) The D&D plain eproxy I have never tried and looks like from your experience (WON'T).

Good timing for me to see this thread... I just finished using some epoxy to place a frag and after reading this I figured I should go check on my skimmer (It's the HOB type in a room with carpet). It was just starting to go nuts so I just unplugged it for the time being. Thanks for the heads up. :)

That is why i use that stuff called PC marine. I found it on Reef Central. sorry for using that name on Canreef. look up on Home depot or home hardware they can order it in for a box like that its 6.95 and the skimmer doenst over flow

Is the exact name PC Marine? I was going to pick up the DD stuff but now I'm thinking twice about it. I may have to go visit home depot instead.

I've never had a problem with the aquascape epoxy (coralline algae colour) but hated holdfast as it didnt really hold anything fast or hold at all.

+1 I cant remember the brand I used for my tank, mind you I did let it cure for a week in the air before adding it to the tank. not sure if that saved the hassle or if its the brand.. now what was the brand.... :lol:

I use the purple Aquascape and have never had a problem, I use rubber gloves when kneading it. I've tried the green stuff but didn't it stuck as well and it works up white.

I've always used the Holdfast stuff, and have recently used the TLF putty. The White-ness of the Holdfast putty looked a little undesirable in open areas, while the Grey TLF putty blends in a little better.

I've always found the Steve-T technique to glue corals/frags down. It's the Glue-Putty-Glue technique that works AWESOME! Just make sure the piece is exactly where you want to place it, cuz it's a bit more work to remove, it works a little too well sometimes. Haha!

been using the d &d stuff for 3 years now, ( purple). Never had a problem. Holds good as long as you knead it a lot. Beauty of it is that it looks like coraline after time.

This is an old thread, but as others are posting so will I.

D&D epoxy rocks for me!!! very easy to mix the 2 parts together, and when dried, very strong and rock solid!

As with all 2 part epoxies, it can play havoc with your water and thus make your skimmers go overboard. Just the way it is, I have used many brands, all with the same result of foaming over for a bit. But it does go away.

I would recommend D&D 2 part epoxy, and would not hesitate to do so.

I think I once used D-D in the 4 years since starting this thread and it was OK. I was in a bind, needed something, and it was the only thing I could buy. Didn't have the skimmer issues with it that time so I think I just had a bad batch originally. These things happen.

I still don't like it as much as I do some of the other brands though. The texture is just not my favourite to work with. Nowadays I just use the pink sticks from TLF brand. Inexpensive, easy to work with, decent setting time, blends into the coraline of rocks not too bad, and easy to remove from the rock if I don't need it anymore. Works for me.
