I have a mixed reef and just wondering if some dosing of additional supplements would help growth/color? Coral snow? Sponge power? Just wondering what people use, aside from a full on zeo setup and have had success with...

I have been using Coral snow, Amino Acids, Coral Vitalizer, Zoo Max and K80. I use the K80 once a week and rotate the others on a 4 day schedual. I also add Cal, and DKH and have found good results with that mix.

Sugar 1 tsp per day in 120 gallons.

Lugol's solution iodine about 5 drops every week or so whenever I remember, I could not find any logical reason for dosing this but someone I trust advised this so I started, makes no difference I can see to my tank or macros though.

I will start dosing iron once I can get some iron supplement, for my chaetomorpha.

Do you notice quicker growth with this stuff? I have heard a couple good things about it.

There are so many additives, it's hard to know which are worth the money, and which are a waste

I find I have gotten really good PE when using Reef Plus and Coral Vitalizer together.. And I could notice it after the 3rd or 4th dose.

Kalk through a reactor.
Unless your tests are out of wack, I wonder if there is any benefit to expensive supplements.
IMO quality food additions like, live phytoplankton, frozen cyclopeze and ultraclam (I have no clams but the product is really minute) is more important to coral growth and colour.

Aside from Ca/Alk stuff the only thing I dose is fish poo.

I feed coral frenzy and Catherine (Michika)'s homemade frozen food, but thats it. Perhaps getting my hands on some live phytoplankton/cyclopeze would be beneficial? I have never used either.

Thanks Jdigital...I think I might give the Seachem a shot

Phyto, Amino acids, Roti Rich, Plant Fuel, Kalk, and some clay based stuff can't remember the name right now.

Try to maintain a consistent 450PPM Ca, 9DKH and 1400PPM Mg, and strong lighting. If I can not test for it, I do not dose it.

I'll supplement my new SW with Mg and Ca then just rely on the Ca reactor the rest of the time.

I run kalk. and ca. reactors. I occasionally use zeo AA and Sponge power, but only because I'm using them up, not because I believe they are doing anything. I believe in a heavy bioload, so lots of fish poop. Occasionally I do hatch live brine, and gut load them before releasing them into the tank.

I notice a BIG difference when I dose with it. Mind you I just have soft corals. But the difference is very noticeable

Interesting..thanks for the feedback!

I have to admit I dont keep the Ca/Mg/dKh as consistent as I would like, but I dont care to get a ca reactor right now, so I will just have to be more disciplined

Ya you need to have that consistent first as that is the most beneficial.
Just for what its worth ever one says Phyto is not that beneficial. When I dose my REFUGIUM my pods grow like crazy if I stop the population declines rapidly. So I am probably one of the few that like Phyto, but then I dose plant fuel as well.
