Hey Guys,

I got my tank setup at work right now and everything is cycling well. I've noticed some brittle stars, and some feather dusters hanging around the tank as well as a big snail.

I had the tank 1/2 full until today and filled it up to about 3/4 water and got the skimmer up and running. Problem!

I bought the skimmer used, and while it works great, the motor at the bottom leaks. It's a Red Sea Prizm for a 90gal tank and I have a 40 gal. I figured it would be better that way since it has extra room so I don't have to always clean it up.

But, I have this at work, around computers, computers and electronics everywhere. No one minds it, but I definately want to get the thing running with as few spills as possible and the skimmer, is always dripping when it's running.

Someone had suggested a built-in overflow for the tank in order to give some extra support for the tank. I figured that it could be possible to have the skimmer hang from the overflow, basically sucking the water from the tank, putting it into the overflow/built-in-sump and have it run in there. The issue is that I'm not sure if the skimmer motor is submersible. Anyone knows?

Is there a reason why I shouldn't do this?

you might find that the pump just needs to be screwed in better.
Sometimes one of the threads on the side of where the skimmer pump locks into place doesn't catch.

The other thing might be that your rubber seal is worn or out of pleace where the pump and skimmer meet.
These are both really easy fixes and worth checking out if you haven't already.
