Alright I just have to make this mini rant so I can go to bed.

So since we moved into our house on October 3rd, there has been this car parked out behind our garage infringing on my ability to get my car safely in and out of our garage. Kevin's car can get in and out without issues.

So since the 5th I have regularly left messages on the car in question asking the owner(s) to move it. I have knocked/rung the bell on the house on the other side of our alley, since it looks like this car is parked there.

Finally today I couldn't take it anymore, and called Parking Services. The car was towed away at 5:30pm tonight.

I left at 6:30pm tonight, and came back at 9:15pm. There was ANOTHER car parked out behind our garage. So I pulled Kevin's car into the garage and went inside. I went out with the dogs at 9:30pm and now the car is RIGHT behind our garage door. So tomorrow we can't leave to go to work because our cars are blocked in.

I have been on hold with Calgary parking services since 9:40pm, that is over an hour at this point. Twice I have been hung up on after getting through. I am so fed up with this. Their website says you can call 24 hours a day for help. I call their bluff on this.

So now its looking like I'll be getting up an extra hour tomorrow to take transit to work on time. People can just be so petty.

Yesterday the same thing happened to the neighbor across the street. I happened to look out the window and saw a car pull up right in front of their driveway with two cars parked in it, park get something out of his trunk and then walk two doors down to a different house. I didn't really think much of it thinking the guy was just dropping something off quickly, but then an hour later I look out and the neighbors are standing in their driveway looking around for who owns the car as they can't get out. Some people are so stupid, I went out and told them what house he went in and they got him to move it, but seriously do people not look where they park at all? I feel for you, but I'd be on the phone waiting for 4 hours before I gave up and took transit in this city haha.

michika

Unfortunately no snails, but I'm sure i can find something that is extra funky, e.g. dead clam, dead snail...

I think is such a pathetic thing to do. They must have been watching for me to come home to do this. Part of me is tempted to do something really cruel and dirty, but the rest of me knows better and tells me to play by the rules.

My third attempt to reach parking services is now at 17 minutes and climbing.

Transit adds an HOUR onto my normal 15-20 minute commute.

Drew, can you arrange for some lovely spray paint? I'm thinking some nice girly neon-pink will go fantastically with the extra manly car blocking me in.

I WIN! I just got through to parking services. The lady on the phone thought these people were just as petty.

I am now worried that these people are going to start dishing out some retribution. The crappy thing is though I haven't driven my car since October 3rd! Its been stuck in my garage. I do feel bad, but I spent a month trying to get them to move the original car, and then they go and pull this.

Well yay for the small victories!

Well I will be getting a call when the driver shows up to take it away. Then I'll be debating if I should hug the driver.

The sad thing is these are the idiots who live BEHIND us. The idiots who live NEXT to us are a whole other level if idiocy. We are in the middle of a dispute with our neighbour over their fence they've built on our side of the property line. They've now sold their house, and are trying to get us to "sell" a strip of our land, 7" wide by the length of our property for $1. Like I mentioned idiocy at its best!

So I'm thinking you need to go out and get some no parking signs and put them up back there (or make some on your own) and see if that works.
As for the people that what some cheap land, what can I say, isn't it always that way, friendly when it is to their advantage and don't give a cr&p afterwards. On the bright side the ball is in your court as either you could make them move the fence or leave it there and not sell the land.

Well, that is certainly far worse than the neighbors who continually steal our out front parking. Far be it from them that they would EVER park in the alley. We always end up parking one vehicle back there.

I'll think of you before I blow my fuse next time.

That is really ignorant what if it was an emergency! Stuck between a rock and a hard
place. Sorry for asking but do they pay much to get the car back? Yeah I'd be a tiny
bit scared they may do something back. I have had some really low neighbours in the
past even after giving people stuff, they pull crap, go figure....What do they say, Love
thy neighbour. Who said that, anyway lol

Well parking services came out, and I guess they saw the truck coming because they moved their car of their own accord. When I got outside to meet the toe truck the driver relayed the story to me. Apparently they see this kind of pettiness all the time. I've been advised to keep calling when it happens, and if it escalates, then take it to CPS.

My neighbor on one side won't even look at me, in fact he won't even pull in his drive way if I'm in mine, he will circle the neighborhood until I'm gone. I'll stand out there just to watch him do laps, I think it's hilarious, my wife doesn't. The weird thing though is we've never had an issue. I don't park in front of his house, I cut all the grass between our houses, I shovel all the way across their drive way in the winter. He will talk to Anathea ( my wife ) every time she is outside. Maybe I just look intimidating, lol

Yeah, people are crazy. There are some older people who live in my building, and they're apparently terrified of me. Why? I don't know...because I'm not geriatric? Because I have a beard? Because I'm a big guy? Call me crazy, but those aren't prerequisites for "murdering rapist"....

A guy from Pakistan moved into the building last month, and my neighbor overheard another tenant wondering aloud if he was a terrorist. *sigh*

Anyway, glad you got it sorted, for today anyway. Let us know if you need any help sorting it out in the future....sounds like we have some creative ideas going around :D

Start getting ready for next time now. Take some of your old homemade food out of the freezer. Put it outside in the sun and let it stew until liquified. Pour a bit in the vents on the front of the car. You could always spill wc water over it, in a year or two the car will go away on it's own, hehe. I also have access to pig turds if you need some. They can be sent Canada Post if packaged well.

Congrats on the new fence!!

You have a lot more patience then I. I'm amazed you waited almost a month before calling someone to tow the car. I had a car park overnight once in my stall in the condo I used to live in. I checked to see if it was still there in the morning and when I saw it was I called and had it towed right away.

Since I have lived in my house I have had the neighbors (on many occasions) just slightly block my driveway. Which is annoying but I can still easily get out so I've never made an issue of it.

There was only one time when the neighbor had a friend visiting and he parked right in front of our driveway completely blocking it. I felt compelled to knock on their door and yell at his friend but since I didn't need to go anywhere I thought I'd wait and see how long he was going to stay parked there. About 20 min.'s later my neighbor came out and saw where his friend was parked and told him to move his car, which thankfully he did. If he had of been there in the morning I would of called a tow truck.

I hope things go better for you and your neighbor but if it doesn't, I say take Drew up on his offer

It think in this city it has come to the point where people just do not care about their fellow Calgarians.

The neighbours on one side of my house I think I have said 5 words to since we moved in 2-1/2 years ago.

The house on the other side had a neighbour that would **** me off.. he was a nice enough guy but did stupid things. He had a beat up old truck that was always parked infront of my house.. he parked between the two driveways so there was not roon enough to park another vehicle if I had visitors and the truck never moved!.. allthough that's not too bad.. just annoying. The thing that drove me nuts is that in the summer he would literally mow half of my grass. I know usually you can go over 1 mower length becuase of the sidewalk to the back yard and all that.. but he would mow right up to my front steps a good 8ft from his property line.. I never understood it.. almost like he was a dog ****ing on a tree trying to extend his property. the summer before last I put up one of those little garden fences.. about a 4 foot length right at the edge of my property line at the front fence and he did not go past it.. but funny enough when I took it out in mid september pending the coming of winter he started mowing half my grass again????

Anyhow.. he moved out about six months ago and the older divorcee lady that moved in next door is awesome... allthough last weekend she went out of town and her kid came over to house sit and parked his POS car hanging 5ft over my driveway forfing me to zigzag around out of the driveway :twised: If she wasn't such a nice lady I would have had her kids car towed :p

Well I think we have a fantastic plan of action for next time something like this happens;

- fantastic day glow spray paint
- that imitation deer/elk/moose pee that hunters use; carefully sprayed in copious amounts up their vents.
- Filling up the car with expanding foam
- wrapping it in Suran? wrap
- wet toilet paper all over it

Although, I understand your frustration etc. but I would be careful about writing down things you could do next time, especially things that could damage property .. what if something bad really did happen to these people or their car? These sort of comments could come back to haunt you. Not everyone would see this thread in jest it is meant to be..

I would stick to calling the tow truck, or even making an effort to talk to your neighbor and see if you could smooth out the feathers.

Just my little FYI :D

They ignore you and pretend they aren't home. However the telltale sign is when the curtains move and you can hear the TV being put on mute.

Well the second car was back again this morning, but on the other side of the alley right across from the garage. I think the first one is still impounded!

I live down town and have to deal with people blocking half my condo's drive way almost every day. It bugs me but, for down town we have very few problems. When I lived in Mount Royal my old roomate had an on going battle with the condo building next door. They would fill our dumpster instead of using theirs.

Many morning I would awake to the sounds of him chewing the neighbours out. One morning he got so mad he pulled the garbage back out ripped the bag open and dumped the garbage all over their entrance.

Anyways don't park in peoples driveways...

Peanut butter makes things interesting, but Vaseline takes it to a whole new level...messy and Very diffacult to remove...

Door handles, windshield wipers...
Keep in mind...The wipers may be a "bad" idea, as they may turn them on, and it may obscure their view, and may cause them to die in a fiery accident...

Inside voice: "Would that be justice or just mean spirited"..you be the judge.

Well guess what I got to do tonight when I got home?! Thats right, I called Calgary Parking Authority again. Although I asked for them just to ticket them instead of going for a tow. I'm tired of fighting with these people, I just wish I could pull in, and out of my garage without having to make 40 3pt turns, and spending 10 minutes doing it. As funny as it is to pull an Austin Powers move a few times a day, I just wish they would stop doing this!

The original car that was towed is out of impound and taking up half their back alley drive way.

Are you able to put something in your space, like a garbage can, when you leave so that they are unable to park in that spot? I know it would mean you have to to extra work to keep them out of your space, but they may get the hint, and stop. They may also just move the item, but that would take extra work on there part. It may save you the headache of dealing with their ignorance.
I would caution against doing something in retaliation. The people you are dealing with are already showing you no respect, so if you do something to them, would it be much of a stretch for them to vandalize your property next? I know that I would be ****ed off and want to do something as well, but I would think that they would just escalate to something worse.

You just recently moved here right? If you didn't this post won't make any difference but if you did...
When we moved into a our "house" (that was 10yo), the neighbours dogs barked at everything. Windows and doors opening, you get the idea. Since we had dogs (basenjis - they dont bark ). This was a real problem.
When we talk to them after several weeks of just wanting to kill em. The owner went off on us telling us about how long he lived there (10years) and what @$$holes all the renters of that house had been blah blah blah, when we explained that we actually owned the place he became much more reasonable.
His dogs still bark, but he actually tells them to stop now. So part of your problem may be that the "bad car owners" are taking out previous frustrations on you... Of course I could be totally off base .
