Ok after a phone call at work about smoke and a burning smell from the fish tank I came home to find this

This is only 6 months old and not acting as a switch only the relay that sends the signal from the computer into the walls. I will repeat that nothing was plugged into this!!!

I fear that if I would have had something plugged into it. It would have started a fire from the continuous power draw that would have continued to feed the short.

In all likely hood this one was probably defective and there is no reason to stop using your X-10 but I will ask you check that all your plugs are tight and that they are mounted in such a way that if they should arc and flame they will not be against anything that is immediately combustible.

Holy Christ! We have one, but never seem to have gotten around to using it yet. Hope everyone is ok at home! What a scare!

Sence descovering this I have replaced all my X-10 with outdoor timers.

these are the ones I got.. easy to set so I might have X-10 units for sale soon, hehe.. or I might hook them up for other things.

hey hows it going, they offered to replace it but that was it. it was on a wall outlet 15 feet from the tank so no no moisture. It could have been a fluke or it could have been a over usage caused by the firecracker unit getting stuck sending commands, or it could have been a fluke.. who knows. you don't have the wireless unit do you?
