Guess I'll go with a plastic background on the next tank instead of painting the back then!! I was all set to paint it too. :neutral: Thanks for the link!

from what i understand it basicaly makes your lights less effective?

I wouldn't hold off just yet...

Looking at the info and graphs provided in that link, the first graph with the clear front, and painted blue back panel, the large portion of ur PAR is from 3/4 back to the front.

Unless you plan on having your corals packed against the back 1/4 of your tank, your not really going to be "loosing" anything significant by painting it. I personally, keep my coral in the front 3/4's of my tanks anyways. Don't forget, they were only using T5's and 150W MH. I think its fair to say most people run 250W MH on most 48" tanks, I really don't think light loss is going to be something to worry about.

True enough, but still it's interesting. You're right, probably not a huge loss in that zone.
