Well last night I went to a fellow canreefers home and did a mini photoshoot of his tank. Thought I would share the images, as it is an amazing tank to see in person. Can't wait till the SPS starts filling in.

Man, that's a lot of live rock. Looks like a dump truck full!it looks like more than it actually is...There is a PVC substructure behind each mound...Doing that probably saved me a small fortune...

How long and wide is that tank?

How long and wide is that tank?

96L x 48W x 36H

To get a picture of it, drop by home depot and take a look at a 4x8 foot sheet of plywood or drywall...Now imagine a 3 foot high stack of that plywood/drywall...

How on earth did you do the aquascaping, especially in the middle of the tank. You'd need a mask and snorkel

*edit* or really, really long arms

650 lbs of live rock!! WOW!! Your Mandarin Dragonet must think he's gone to heaven picking pods off of all that rock. Did you buy all the rock at once?

Tank looks great Glen. Was it built on site?

Those are awesome dimensions. :) Is it a glass aquarium or is it plywood, or acrylic?

Ooops, guess it's a glass tank, looking at the pictures again. What thickness is the glass?

JDigital

^^ It's 1 or 1.5 inch I believe..

I'll have to get pics of the tank room in beyong next time I am around Glenn!

I love it! What else do you have for livestock in the tank? How are you keeping your parameters in line, specifically which method do you use for your Ca., dKH, and Mg maintenance?

Lookin goooooooooood Glen. Your right all that sps has barely made a dent. Give it a year or two the your tank will look full. I heard about the achilles...hows it doin?

Doug.

achilles is doing alright...seemed as tho the sohal was chasing it around at the start but now he stands his ground

I had the tank built on site when I was doing my basement...Only damaged one sheet...

As for parameters, i use luck and gut feeling at the moment...I dont have a calc reactor as yet but try to use the best salt and additives...I know the luck wont last forever but still trying to piece out certain devices to make the tank better..Although I test the calcium, alkalinity and mg often, everything looks good for now...

I believe the glass is 22mm

As for the sps not making much of a dent, I now have a new plan that involves giving more money to Red Coral and Coral Masters...

Wow Glen, your tank looks awesome! I met you at Red Coral when you were buying truck loads of salt! How long has it been since you first set-up your tank?

I try to change about 80 gallons every second weekend....

I am looking to get a calcium reactor but trying to find the right size is easier said than done...Have been given a price on one but manually dosing right now so will hold off for as long as I can...

Only had a 66g FOWLR previously so if anyone can think of equipment I might need, please let me know...

After visiting Coral Master, I realize I need more flow...The 4 Tunze generates just under 13000 gallons per hour but thats only 20 times...I am thinking of getting a couple of Tunze 6201 added to each end which move 5000gph each or 4 of the Tunze 6125 (3170gph) so that I can hide them behind some of the rockwork and move more water in those spots...Would be happy with 40-50 times flow excluding return lines...

Terry

Started filling the tank on Feb 29 using the culligan machine I have at home...23 days later, I had half a tank...I needed another 55? 5 gallons of water to top it off once the rock arrived...Took another 4 days to get enough water in the sump...If I ever need to lift another bottle of R/o, it will be too soon...

Once I put the rock in the tank to cure, I was advised to leave the lights off for 3 weeks to minimize algae...2 months later, I had enough and turned the lights on to see white rocks...The colours are starting to come back and you may be able to see in the middle section the coraline and other colours are quite strong...I had the most light in the middle and slowly added light as time went on...I had very little hair and other nuisance algae in the tank and I am glad I left the lights off for so long...

So its basically been running with livestock for 3.5 months...Since you live so close, let me know if you want to take a look...

You might want to wait a couple months for the new Stream2s to come out if you can. Another flow option is a Wavebox. Not sure how many you'd need in a tank your size (ask Roger Vitko on the Tunze RC forum) but I've found that a wavebox really helps with supplemental flow.

As for a Ca Rx, I've only ever used a GEO, but it's built like a rock and dead simple to setup and use. It might be better for you to dose two-part manually for now, but when your demands ramp up a good reactor is the only way to go.

Hi Glen,

That sounds great! I would love to see your tank sometime. Your sump is probably the size of my 120g tank.

There are lots of handy people around the forum who make acrylic into very pretty reactors. I have a DIY one from NewGuy (Harvey), and it, and the associated Kalk. reactor were cheap, and hardy.

How are your SPS colouring up? I wonder if yours and mine are colouring up the same? More close up shots!
