Would anyone know if it is possible to run 4 2' bulbs with a balast designed for 2 4' bulbs. I was thinking I could run two shorter bulbs in series for each 4' bulb. Am I nuts?

What brand of ballast is it? Every major ballast manufacturer will have the various possible bulb combinations listed on their respective websites.

Depends on the type/brand of ballast. I can only speak regarding Workhorse 8 ballast which can run a variety of T5 configurations. Does the ballast have any kind of label providing wattage and/or circuit diagrams?

Thanks for the help guys, I have not picked up my ballast yet. It is for my main tank but I was wondering if the same one would work on my frag tank. I will check it out next week.
