Can someone tell me what this is called?
It grows real nice in my tank.

I think it is some kind of Monti. I also think, that if you ever frag it, I need a piece!

it looks more like a favia sp. to me, but the ridges are throwing me off a bit.

I was thinking it looks more like a leptastrea

It has overgrown some worms so the bumps are deceiving. The other piece I have is more smooth. It is encrusting and grows not to bad, and it has doubled in size in the three months I have had it.
It is a bit soon to frag but when I do I will put you on the list haloreef.

This is a good guess and on the right track if the green area is "spongey" and soft to the touch like an LPS. If not I am pretty sure it is a Porites species. Possibly P.branneri, P.astreoides or a similar variety. Great looking coral!!

The green part is hard more like SPS if that helps.
So it must be a sort of porite. Is purple superman the same kind?

Oh I should have put that this is a Macro shot the piece is only about one inch square. Not sure if everyone thought that or not.

I would say then that it is porites and a beauty of a specimen. Superman has some similarities but is montipora...... M.danae to be specific.

Tough to tell from the pic, but if not a monti or porites, could also be a species of encrusting cyphastrea.

I think I found out what this is.
Can it be Montipora Confusa?

Not a confusa, at least not like the ones I have.

EDIT: You know, you might be right, after looking at it more it does have similar charachteristics with a Confusa; however, Confusas usualy have much more brown/tan highlighted by intense green color. That specimen shows no such contrasting colors. Maybe it is a light adaptation response.

I have some other corals with light issues as well. That green piece I got from you has never done well the one with the long polyps. That green cap I got is doing great though, and that pink cats paw I can't get off the bottom of the tank it just bleaches every time I try.
So the color can be off a bit. Tank is not that old so it might come around.

There has been a few times were it was all green for a bit with the green covering the retracted polyps.
