i was wondering what the best pair of fish(like male and female) that would go into a 29 gallon(with a 20 gallon sump)
if possible try not to say clown fish, unless its a neatly shaped one(A.K.A. not shaped like occelaris or percula)
right now the only thing i can think of is a pair of bangaii cardinals or a pair of perculas

Then how about some of the more exotic coloured clowns like black or a pair of gold striped maroon clowns?

I thank that any pair of clowns can be agressive when their territory/eggs are being threatened. I think that a tomato is the worst tho.

Yes it would be. I am not sure how large they get without looking it up, it was just an idea.

How established is the tank? If it has been running for a while then how about a pair of mandarin dragonets??

haha, its not set up yet :P
im just really trying to get my initial stocking plan.
how long would i have to wait to be able to put mandarins in?
clown gobies or bangaii cardinals
both will breed in captivity, I've never tried to raise the fry, but it is kinda neat.

Unless you get really lucky and can find a male and a female that eat prepared foods there is no way a 29g could support 2 mandarins. Please don't even consider it
A goby/pistol shrimp pair can be pretty cool

yeah. the only way i would consider having a pair of mandarins in a 29 is if they took prepared foods, or i had atleast 6 seperate jars of active pod farms
i was kinda liking the bangaiis because that way if i wanted to i could raise the fry and it might not be as hard as raising clownfish eggs
