View Full Version : Mounting Frogspawn

I have this frogspawn simply embeded in the sandbed. You cannot really see it in this photo but the two heads are on two stalks.

I only have a small amount of sand exposed at this time and I would like to move this frag up onto the LR. Can I cut the two heads off and mount them on the LR? Will each head expand on the rock or will they continue to grow by extending their stalks?

I would find a crevice that you can epoxy the stalk into

That's an idea. What is the growth pattern of this variety? Will it ontinue to grow on a stalk or will it spread out on the LR?

It should "branch out"... The polyps should sort of “split” off one another and the coral will grow sideways (in a sense).

I found a candidate crevice. It is temporarily wedged in to see how the frogspawn likes the flow at that spot.

They grow upwards and outwards from their stalks, kinda like a tree. I second the epoxy idea.

Ya, it grows from the stalk. It will branch off new stalks as it gets larger, they do not encrust onto rocks like SPS

At lunch time yesterday I moved the frogspawn to a temporary new location to test the flow. It is currently jammed in a crevice.

At around 6:00pm my 2 clowns, who I have only had for 2 weeks, started to host in the frogspawn. And it looks like they hosted all night. They had only paid casual attention to the frogspawn before.

So I guess this is the coral's new home. I am curious to see how much the frogspawn will expand today with all the attention it is now receiving.

My clowns host in my frogspawn too. It doesn't seem to have affected the coral.

Make sure to epoxy it down if the clowns are hosting it, otherwise you'll find it knocked out of place in no time.

PS: Good to see your tank is coming together!
