What is the best hang on protein skimmer? I have a 44 gallon tank. I previously had a Coralife Skimmer but have recently lost a part so now I need to replace it. I am wondering if I should buy the same one or a different one. Any suggestions?

You should look at the Deltec HOB skimmers. I don't have one but I've never heard anything but great stuff from them. The Coralife you had is one that pretty much everyone has nothing good to say about...so you should see some positive improvements if you go
Deltec.

Will the skimmer clear up my water? I find my water is yellowy even with water changes. How long can my tank go without a skimmer. I wanted to buy a Deltec from J & L but they are backordered for 2-3 weeks....

The skimmer will clear up your water to some extent (and likely better than the coralife if you go with a different brand). However running carbon as well will help with clearer water

I wonder if the yellow water is just a result of the bulbs you're using. Some give off a pretty yellow tint.

I have a Deltec MCE600 and it works like a champ. Granted, it's probably too much skimmer for my system, but....I'm a believer in "more is more" when it comes to skimming. But you could easily get away with the MCE300.

How long can I go without a skimmer? Will 2-3 weeks be detrimental to my tank?

As long as you're not overstocked, I doubt a couple of weeks would hurt. Maybe just cut back on feeding a bit.

My Deltec works just fine..Bac Paks are supposed to be good too...and yes carbon in your filters would work well for water clarity...

I have a aqua c remora for my 46 fowlr, and i works very well. it is reasonably priced, and very popular for a hob. i get great results every few days with the cup filled with skimmate. i'm sure the deltec is supreme, but at a cost. if you don't skim, problems will be exacerbated with your water quality issues.

I ordered the Deltec from J & L........ altough it is going to be 3-4 weeks. I am really hoping my tank is going to be OK for that period of time without a skimmer.........I should probably just make sure to do regular water changes right?

I really wouldn't worry too much about not running one. I took mine off a couple of months ago. I try to do a 25% change every week but sometimes don't get around to it. Not a big deal in my opinion.
