Hi,
I have a 30Gallon Reef type tank set-up it is 30X12X21 (LXWXH). I have it as a divider between living room and dining area with Live rock in center of tank. I am running 150W DE Halide fixture for lighting.
My question is I have the chance to obtain a 30X18X18 tank what pro's or cons are there for shallower tank?

You're getting 6 inches more front to back, for losing 3 off the height? No cons to that as far as I can see.

i agree . though it will be a little wierder now as a divider for the room, but more depth is always a good thing.

When u say divider, is it actually IN-WALL? or just on center island/table/stand?

If its on a table/stand type setup, the extra width would be better IMO, 6 inches is alot more viewing space in my eyes. I have a 36x18x18 and a 48x18x21, and to be honest, when standing infront of them, its difficult to notice the height difference.

Just a tank on a stand, with a 150 W Halide lamp above on a support.
Thanks for all the responses.

The extra width of the tank will give you a greater aquascaping footprint. Shallow tanks are easy to clean but the increased surface area will evaporate more. A taller tank will allow larger "up" growing corals more room. Pros and cons with each.....get a ninety or something:biggrin:
