I don’t know what is going on with my zenia, it starting to melt, I had it for around tree months; 1 month was pulsing but wasn’t as healthy as the first 3 days(skinny and brown) two months after it started to shrink and yesterday it started to melt. I thought my iodine was low so then I start adding 15ml once in a while (1 dose every 4th dayish) anyways my parameter of my tank is: PH: 8.2 Temp: 78-82 NO3: 5-10 salinity: 0.025-0.026. calcium: 550. I think my Parameter is pretty descent isn’t? so why the hek they are melting!!!! Any idea? Oh yeah I tried to place him on a low flow area but I don’t know how about the lighting, I have 2X400watt Metal hilide….. please help....Thanks in advance

2X400 is pretty bright for that coral.. Do you have a shaded spot you could place it in?

Edit..
Rereading, it looks like you have had it under the 400's for a few months, not sure what to say.

I have xenia under 2 x400 mh, as it seems to thrive. I had one section once that started to 'melt', but I figued that it was chemical warfare from the zoos that were right beside it. I cut the bad section off (smelly!) and threw it out. I didnt have any more problems.

My Xenia has died off in my tank as it became more and more nutrient poor due to the Ultralith/Zeovit system. I have a feeling Xenia requires somewhat "dirty water" ie. Nitrates, phosphate, and other normaly found nutrients.

Just a thought........

I have the book "Aquarium Corals" by Borneman and it suggests that Xenia is sensitive to Lugols iodine. Are you using this or regular iodine?

The reason why xenias have that stench is because they absorb wastes in the tank. If your tank is too clean they wont like that.
