Two cloths. Wipe the tank with one moistened with tap water, then dry and buff with the second.

I use tap water on a soft cloth and a california water blade (squeegee).

I am not sure what the effects would be but I am pretty sure they would not be good. It is not advised to use any form of cleaner on your tank glass. Vinegar and water is the best.

I've only ever used Windex. Just make sure you spray the windex onto the paper towel and not directly at the glass as the overspray will get into the water. I also spray the paper towel away from the tank as well for the same reason.

I, too, spray Windex onto paper towel away from the tank and have not had any problems.

ya brad i've been using windex up until recently, i noticed that when the front panel gets bad water stains the windex kind of smears it, vinegar and water doesn't leave any noticable streaks as i can tell

drock169 i noticed you said you use newspaper, i've heard of this several times, i'd imagine the ink wouldn't release as people wrap there live rock/stock in it for shipping all the time without ill effect-

Is using news paper an uncommon thing for cleaning glass? I've been using news paper since I was a wee little lad .....

I've used newspapers for most glass cleaning like mirrors, car windshield, windows, and exterior of the fish tank. It works great for not leaving streaks. I aim the windex away from the tank and spray a bit of it on the newspaper before wiping it on the fish tank.

Ya stuff like The Sun and Herald will do. Not the glossy stuff like flyers.
