Is anyone doing this with any luck? I would love to try some Acopora but I don't want it to just exist I would like it to do well.

I had 2 175w 10k ushios on my 75g and had great success with acropora. What size tank are you running?

90 gallon with two 10,000k 175s and two NO actinics, I was figuring on putting the Acopora high in the water column anyway.

I have a 20 gallon reef also close to a 400 watt MH that I use for my Orchids, it is a daylight spectrum, 5000k I wonder if the Acopora would like that spectrum??

The corals don't much care about spectrum. They will grow just fine with a 4300k bulb. You just won't be able to stand looking at it :D

It was not my idea to try acropora, however I received a small frag of green acropora at the last meeting so I thought I would give it a try. I didn't even want to "chance it", but a freind of mine told me to try a small frag just incase. Well I am happy to report that this smalll frag is do really well, the polyps are fully extended throughout the day and I can even see some new growth forming :D

Not something that I would ever suggest, as I was planning on giving this piece to my roomie for his two 10,000k MH 60 gl reef. This frag has done so well in my 27 gl reef that I'm not even thinking about that now. Most of the success in keeping this piece is probably due to the size of the frag- it's been able to acclimatize to my low lit reef, and the other reason would be even though my reef is just 90 watts of NO lighting- it is really shallow in depth-only 11 inches from the top of the sandbed to the water surface.

Thanks folks, that sounds great, I may get two frags and put one in each tank and compare them.

here's my old 33 from October 2002. It's lit by 2 175w 10s and 2 2' vho actinics.. The light is all you will need for growth and you will get great colour too..
