*edit* you'll have to excuse my excitement, the only other skimmers I've had before this were prism pro, bak pak, remora pro and a berlin xl turbo

Were you able to get in on that group buy Marie?

How did it work out for you?

You know how some times you spend way too much money on impulse and everything seems to go wrong right from the time you order it? Shipping is weeks later then you were told, hidden fees that end up costing you more then you anticipated? Item arrives broken and the seller can't be found?
Well this time it didn't happen to me
It worked great, I had them ship it by usps (I had free shipping). It took 10 days to get here and all I had to pay at this end was gst, pst and a $5 brokerage fee (for some reason there was no duty even though its made in germany and it was shipped in the original box). I saved quite a bit of money and I couldn't be more thrilled (knock on wood)

Ummm... no! but I do have a berlin turbo XL that I could sell you

I figure I have about 200g give or take 10g. I actually thought of getting the supermarin 250 but I already spent wayyyyyy too much money on a fish toilet i couldn't justify spending a couple hundred more

Wonder how that would work on my 45g? LOL:lol:

QUIET? really? One thing that i dont like about my setup, I can hear that Aqua C Urchin spraying away. only had it a month, can I upgrade yet?? Ruh Roh, I think I may be becoming an addict???

Hi Marie,
I feel like a skimmer bobo but what sort of skimmer is it and what did it cost?
I'm also thinking of changing over my remora pro for something else and give the remora to my daughter...

marie
05-02-2008, 03:05 PM
It's a BubbleKing skimmer. Cost about 3 times more then I was willing to pay for a skimmer and it's so far worth every penny.

It has produced more skimmate in 15 hrs then my berlin produced in 5 days and its still breaking in

Marie what are the true dimensions of the WHOLE unit assembled?

J&L only lists the size of the base but I'm trying to plan my sump and would really appreciate it if you could measure for me =) I think there are 2 different ways to mount the pump so i imagine there are 2 possible dimensions as well.

lastlight
05-07-2008, 04:23 AM
Oh and what depth does it need to be run in?

Thanks.

marie
05-07-2008, 05:12 AM
From everything I've read, the ideal depth is around 9" which is where I have mine at the moment and it seems to run well but i think i read somewhere it can be anywhere from 7-10" as long as the depth is stable (doesn't change with evaporation)
The way I have it set up the dimensions are (including all sticky outie pieces  ) 16 1/2" by 12".
If it is set up the other way I think it would be approx 11" by 19" ... all these measurements are approx because it is hard to get a true measure with the base underwater but I rounded all the numbers up so it shouldn't be bigger then what i said

It's better to go skimmerless until you have the money saved up for a good one then it is to have to deal with a crappy one that sets you back a couple of hundred dollars.

Well I think its done breaking in but its kind of embarrassing to show exactly how much gunk is being removed in a 24hr period
Skimmer cup was empty yesterday evening
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/mariesnell/skimmer018.jpg

All I can say is, no wonder I started having problems with the tank. I'm now going to assume that it is all a nutrient issue, not a co2 bottle issue

Omg, this thing has gone to a whole new level of disgusting. I was tired of having to empty the cup every 3 days so I thought I would see how dry a skimmate I could get.
I cleaned the cup thoroughly sat and by this afternoon the fish room was starting to smell pretty bad.
This is the result, the skimmate was so thick you could almost cut it with a knife and the smell is horrendous (and I come across some pretty bad smells at work)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/mariesnell/misc020.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/mariesnell/misc021.jpg

sorry for the bad picture quality I blame it on the smell

As you can see the cup isn't even half full, I could of let it go another 4 days... if the smell didn't kill me first

I was sooooo tempted to sneak that out of the sump & into my CRV on my last visit. Good thing I cut off my pinky tip  & couldn't get my hands wet:biggrin:

Glad this big purchase worked out so well for you. Now you can hook up the big CO2 tank to your Ca reactor again. I guess your tank had reached critical mass in terms of nutrient bioload when you had those problems (before the BK).

i'm so jealous i'm running a corallife 125 and managing to skim 1 cupful every week but then i got huge tankful of algae in my sump that sucks up all those noxious nutrient. what this equates to is my nitrate, phosphate measures zilch while i end up tossing into garbage bin handfuls of algae too often.
