Hey, all you Albertans. What are paying for gas at the pump in Calgary and Edmonton? We're at $121.9 right now and supposed to hit $130. soon!
PS: Too Bad Flames fans. I was cheering for Iggy & CO.

Average in Calgary right now seems to be $121.9/l. You can get it around $1.16/l at some of the discount places.
I think it's just about time to trade in the Hummer for a Smart Car :p

Just filled my truck; 118.4 for regular. This snow and cold has got to go so I can use my motorcycles full time. I like the 65mpg in the city much better than the 16.5 the truck gets.

Ya so we can ship it to the US and continue to pay more here that in the US.
My wife and I just went shopping for a new vehicle and expected to see new vehicles with a 50+ MPGallon. Nothing came close that had we could find.
On another story my Uncle from Grand Prairie (RIP) in 1974 did a retro fit on the carb of his 1970 Chrysler New Yorker that gave him 70+ MPG at that time. He sold out for enough to pay off his farm and go on a holiday. He was never sure who purchased it but all relevant , tools, carb, and paper work was taken.
So the technology is out there I know for sure.

It's $1.21 here in SW Ontario. This mornings news said that gas prices in the US have hit an all time high but when converted to liters and CDN$ it is still just $0.90/liter.

When I bought my truck (Xterra, has a supercharger) in 2004 gas prices were up there, but not so much that I thought the premium for paying for premium exceeded that which I was paying to maintain my previous vehicle to keep it on the road (VW Passat - it was a total lemon costing me several $$thousands every year just to keep it going).
Nowadays, not so much. $1.30 hurts and when regular hits $1.30 I'll be at $1.40.
Like BMWRider, I can't wait for this snow and cold to go away so I can start riding MY bike. Except mine has pedals instead of an engine so I get about "infinity" mpg. :D Just takes a little longer sometimes to get from point A to point B.

$0.90 plus $.031/liter tax (http://fuelfocus.nrcan.gc.ca/prov_map_e.cfm?ProvCode=ON) = $1.21/liter. Exact same price!

And to top it all off, we pay tax on the tax! In Alberta, the money collected from gas taxes was to go into roads and highways You would never know it! In some places it's smoother to drive in the ditches.

I'm in the trucking industry. Those high gas prices are going to drive everything up. I hear corn growers are getting more for there crops selling them to bio-diesel producers then selling them for consumption. Trucking companies fuel surcharges go up with the increases of gas. The price of trucking the products goes up. Which makes those products prices go up and so on and so on. YA

And some of the businesses are adding fuel surcharges above and beyond what the trucking companies are charging them. Also, they don't seem to lower or remove them when the price of fuel goes back down, like last fall.

Its funny, we talk about taxes and all on the gas, what about the profits that the oil companies make?? I know its not illegal to Make A Profit, But Look at Exxon, Last year, first quarter $11.7 BILLION dollars in profit. I think they could afford to make a little less a litre to help the ecconomy, dont ya think?

Instead of complaining about how much oil companies make, join in. Buy some shares in them and enjoy the ride. A totally un Canadian thought, but hey, sometimes I think a little different. As for taxes have you filed yours yet? Enjoy. The "EVIL" United States celebrated tax freedom day today. Anyone care when guess our's is?

Yes, but their national debt is umpteen trillion dollars and growing rapidly. Not that I support our higher taxes, but I'd still rather live in our economy.
As for the oil companies profiting hugely every year while gas prices rise almost daily; as long as people continue to buy and drive ridicoulously oversized unecessary vehicles and burn more and more fuel, the oil companies will continue on this path. People complain about the cost per litre to feed their gas hungry SUVs and trucks, but they are as yet unwilling to get rid of them for a more ecomomical option. The gas is flowing out of the pumps just as fast as when the prices were half of what they are today. Good old rules of supply and demand.
I drive a full size truck too, but only as much as I have to. I do genuinly need a truck sometimes, which is why I own it, but my motorcycles are my primary vehicles. Yes, that's hard to believe in Alberta, but I do put nearly triple the miles on my bikes that I do my truck. So for those of you who can't manage the price of a Smart car or a hybrid; perhaps you should get a motorcycle. My R1100RS gets a lousy 45 mpg city and 55 hwy, while my little F650GS gets 65 and 75. Even burning premium, its still a bargain. And they're a ton of fun to boot.

I beleive that the Americans per capita debt is smaller than ours. I'll need to verify that though.
After some research I was wrong.
Canadian per capita debt: $15500 2007
US per capita debt: $30400 2008
This is just Federal debt. I'm sure Canadian debt would be much higher if provincial and municipal were added in.

Gas prices out of control and personally I don't think it's going ot end unless something drastically changes. There has been no adjustement made to the daily production to compensate for China's increased consumption by OPEC, plus you have the president of Iran saying oil in undervalued.
This is just my opinion (obviously) but it looks like a strategic attack on the US, I mean the dollar us HURTING now, everyone dislikes Bush, the war is massivlely hated they see weakness and are trying a different approach.
The greedy Banks that KNEW they were hustling people into ****** loans that will eventually screw the borrower over are a big part of the currrent US economic crisis. The need to grab every cent from consumers just got outta control. And now Walmart is limiting rice purchases!!
And why am I so upset about all this, well I was planning on purchasing a Shelby GT500 this year but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan does the cost of ownership go up when you factor in Supreme fuel at prolly 5+ dollars a gallon!
I hope this saltwater burning/cancer curing/ machine works!
Im watching companies like http://www.lightningcarcompany.com/ and http://www.teslamotors.com/ with keen interest these days.
It may take some time but eventually change will come.

I was ust going to post those stats as well. Yes the current per capita debt is more than double for the US (2008 stat for Canada shows $14032).
And keep in mind, the US is currently running deficit budgets while Canada is in a surplus position. If you want to add in Provincial debts, then to keep it even you would also need to add in individual State debt to even the playing field (current estimate of total federal, state and municipal US debt is 53 trillion, or $175,000 per capita). No matter how you slice it, the American economy is heading for a brick wall at out of control speed. The downside is, the wreck is going to make a mess on our doorstep as well.

Smart cars aren't too expensive though are they? I thought they were offered at around $17k-18k, or has the prices gone up? As much as I like them, I don't follow the prices because I can't buy one (two small kids - a two seater car would be OK for me to commute to work in, but not much else).
Best car I ever owned was an '84 VW Rabbit GTI. Peppy little thing, was a blast to drive, and went forever on a tank of gas considering how much gas it held (think it was a 40l tank - and that was good for 500km highway, maybe 400ish city). I get 450km in my truck (city or highway, no difference) but takes 70l to fill.
The U.S. economy situation does have me worried. How did Trudeau put it? Something about being a mouse sleeping next to sleeping elephant, you really have to watch out if the elephant rolls over. Them hitting the wall will hit us too. It already has, my RRSP's are down 15% in Q1 2008. Hopefully things recover eventually..

Out of curiosity what do you get charged for insurance on your bikes there?
Manitoba has made it so there is almost no cost saving by insuring a motorcycle, the insurance is so high that it cancels out the fuel savings.
I have a 1948 Chevy with a 396 big block, and while city mileage is poor, highway is decent. Now gas being $1.25/L mileage is an issue, but it costs me less than $1000/year to insure the vehicle ($884 for all purpose and full coverage), while my 1100cc shadow now would be $2058 with no fire and theft or vandalism.
That $1174 would buy a lot of gas in the 5 - 7 months we drive either vehicle here! I wish I could justify a bike again!

Youch, that's extreme. My rates for both bikes with full coverage (collision, all perils and liability) is a little under $1200 per year. I'm insured under the MMIC's Open Road insurance program. The rates with them are much more reasonable than through most independant insurers, but I see that is not available to you in Manitoba.

I've been paying sky high gas prices in the UK ever since I owned a vehicle.
That's why we don't drive Hummers, Dodge Rams, F-150's etc & the average family car has a 4 cylinder 1.8 liter engine.
Gas prices here seemed cheap to me.
The only that bothers me is that I can't get 98 or more Octane petrol!
UK Petrol Prices for Thursday 24th Apr 2008
Unleaded (94 Octane): 119.9p
Diesel: 131.0p
Super (98 or more Octane Petrol): 126.9p
LPG: 60.9p
Convert that to $CAD and UK already pays around $2.40/liter for regular gas!
In 4 years time it'll be over $5/liter
