I may be moving soon and be forced to downsize tanks. I am looking for a glass or acrylic cube tank...something like 2'x2'x2'...but Im not too sure yet. Depends on price. Must be RIMLESS though. So Im guessing 1/2" thickness at the least?

Any info on tank builders here or if anyone has built acrylic tanks and wants to give me a rough quote, please feel free :)

Thanks!

I just got my tank built, but not locally. I got it from Aquarium Obsessed in Ontario. The reason I say this is because the price, with shipping, was acutally the same as local builders and the quality is absolutely amazing. If you want to check them out, go to www.aquariumobsessed.com

Looks good. Thanks for the link.

$899 + tax + shipping for a 24" cube

Is that a good price?

I don't know if thats a good price but my custom 130G was built for about $100 less by a company in Victoria. I may end up going back to them...

That is probably Starphire though right?

I kind of want acrylic.

yep, Starphire front & sides.

It's just what I was looking for before I bought a Solana cube.

I heard a Canreef member here in BC makes acrylic tanks?

Where did you get the solona cube? I really like those.

I got it from King Ed's a couple of weeks ago.

I did a little review of it here (http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=40475).

I like it so far but I worry that the glass is too thin (5mm)

Yeah seems kind of thin...I think I may look for an acrylic building who can do a rimless cube with thick acrylic. I kind of want a sump still as well. If anyone knows a good acrylic worker, please let me know!

wonder if this is a tempered tank 4mm would be okay for this.
I saw the one at king ed and it had polished sides.

It cost me about $550 in glass for my 24x24x30 cube.
12mm tempered all panels.
3 sides Starphire. (cost 2x regular)
1-3" hole
1-2 1/2" hole
6-1 1/2" holes
Polished all sides.
And assembled by me.
I don't know if that helps but it gives you an idea on what a glass cost is.
I get glass direct though and we buy lots so that helps as well.

$899.00 does not seem too bad for a 24" cube.
call Kren plastics in coquitlam to get a cost on a acrylic tank.

I'm not sure if it's tempered glass or not as I can't find it anywhere in Current-USA literature or website.

$550 for the glass sounds good. Maybe you'll get a pm from me when I'm ready to build my 150+gallon reef

Kren build some crazy stuff! :)

My 24x24x18 braceless tank was built by Seastar in Victoria and cost me about $150. I'm sure you could get a beveled starphire tank built by them for considerably less than $900. Get a hold of Wendell and ask him to get you a quote from Seastar.

My current tank is made by them. I may consider them again but I prefer other options first.

And I agree...$900 seems way too high to me!

I know 900 seems high, but if you are looking for the best quality out there, they are the guys to do it.

But I completely understand, that 900 is a lot of money to spend.

Just wanted to say that my experience with them was second to none and that everybody that has seem my new tank cant believe the craftsmanship and quality.

$900 seems ok to me for a quality Starphire tank but then again I only really have UK prices to compare to when it comes to most things...

How long did it take for your tank to arrive once ordered?

How thick was the glass?

The tank that I had ordered was 72x30x24 and the glass is 12mm thick on the front and sides and 15mm on the back. It is all eurobraced with external overflows and starphire glass. And the whole thing took about 2 months to get to my door, but that was mainly because I changed a few things and wasn't in too much of a hurry , because my basement wasn't done yet.

Oh it was 900 for 72x30x24? Thats not expensive at all then...Thats really good.

I thought you meant 900 for a 2x2x2. I think that would be expensive.

No I never said I paid 900, that was VFX I believe. And that is one of there packages I believe.
