Good question. I allways assumed it had something to do with the dimentions. Longer shallower tanks.

wider (deeper if you will) and a bit shallower. that is what i believe breeder tanks are.

bigger footprint for when the fish breed, as most fish only stick to the bottom when breeding/rearing fry.
