This is a Ricordia colony that i have just gotten.

The hitchhicker in this case, is the supposed rock. Its actually some kind of Clam, or oyster.... any one got any ideas?

That's kind of super cool, but kind of super scary as hell. It looks like a big toothy monster mouth :)

I think it a scallop....reason i say that is my son put a sticker on my computer tower of a picture of a scallop...and the caption says "scallops can have up to 100 eyes" and in the first pic up close, those dark dots on the edge look like eyes, just like on this sticker.

I expect it will neet phytoplankton feeding to survive.

Yeah I'd guess scallop as well, and will probably need to be fed. Neat

So what if it DOES die? Will it foul his tank?

Well theres a giant mass of living tissue in there so I'd say likely yes it will, unless his fish find it first or something.

my fish would definatly clean that up, if it were to die.

wow that is sooo cool. definitely scallop because of the eyes and definitely will need feeding since it's a scallop.

Something like DT's Phytoplankton or some sort of liquid algae. I think Kent makes a phytoplankton as well. You might have to take it out of the tank and "target" feed it (basically create a dense soup of algae that it can hang out and filter for an hour or so).

when i had scallops and oysters in my tank, stirring up the sand once in a while seemed to keep them happy with suspended detritus and other goodies...either that or I just made my water cloudy for no reason.

they filter feed on better stuff than detritus; if anything that practice is probably much more likely to just stress out the aquarium inhabitants. I agree with feeding phytoplankton as above.
