What is the best type of goby for sifting and cleaning the sand? I was told a ladder goby works well?

I use watchman's in mine. They sift well and don't swim around with their mouths full making a mess on the rockwork and corals like some gobies do.

Had a Sleeper Goby (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=213&N=0) that went through the sand pretty good.

Negative was he'd take a mouthful then rise up ~6" and spread sand over everything.

I use two Golden Head sleepers...they do a great job, but do dump sand everywhere....and I mean everywhere.

I had a orange spot goby that did a great job stirring the sand. It would stay in one spot and filter the sand. It never would swim up and dump sand on the corals.

As said above, the Sleeper Goby will make a mess! Please do not buy one if it will end up annoying you...I hear of people all the time "getting rid" of them because they spread sand around a lot. Not really fair since its just natural to them. I love mine, he keeps the sand very clean and its not a big deal to me if he makes a bit of a mess :)

This is an example of him cleaning the sand:

I ended up getting a dragon goby......he is working really hard at sifting the sand and he just stays at the bottom and doesn't spread the sand everywhere......thanks for the help.

When they bigger it will take mouth full of sand and sifted it above the rock, covering everything. All so they can move all the sand from one of the tank to the other side. This is what my 3" dragon goby did in my tank.

My dragon spreads it everywhere. The signal goby neatly sifts it over his fused fin, which is nice. I think in the future I may choose another signal rather than dragon for a sifter.
