HI guys,

Finally put the water in the tank...what is the proper temperature when initially starting a reef and the proper specific gravity...

thanks,,,

I think there is a tendency too go a little warmer and a little higher salinity than before.
I keep the temperature at 80F and the salinity 1.025. I think you will find everybody will be different.

I think naesco is pretty much bang on. I don't think there is any EXACT temp or specific gravity that you should keep your tank, you just want to maintain an acceptable range. I keep my tank at 80F and 1.026 SG. I try to maintain a range of 79-82F for temperature and 1.024-1.026 for the specific gravity.

Despite the popularity of higher temps encouraged by Ron Shimek, I prefer a range of 77-80F. Specific gravity around 1.026.

I run at 79° F and 1.024 SG

Hi,

I run my at 80 and 1.024-1.025.

IMHO, higher SG levels seems to prevents some diseases from occuring. Higher temperature improves growth rates (to a point...maybe a maximum of 82 to 84).

I keep mine at these levels because when summer time rolls around, my tank's temperature can increase by 2 degrees (at around 6PM). So, a max of temperature of 82 is my goal.

Recently lowered mine to 76-80 for temp. But running 1.025-1.026 for salinity.
