I'm having a new tank built. Corner tank with 40" back sides (diamond shapped) with a depth of approx 28" (back to front) and 20" deep. There will not be any way to mount lights on top due to the shape, so I'm going to have a light stand built into the frame (or possibly a special frame for the top of the tank). Obviously, due to the cost of the tank, I hope I am only doing this once. This will be a reef tank, but not sure of the corals I want to put in, but do not want to be limited due to a poor choice of lighting.

Any suggestions as to what lights I should buy? (with the exceptions of LED's)

We will be selling our 250MH, the bulb and fixture is 6 months old, and it has blue led lights that make a cool moon light effect, but the nicest thing about it is that the light comes with a screw on clamp. So basically you can mount it to any side of your tank. I pd $500.00 for it but will be selling the light for $300.00. Saltaddict should be putting this light up for sale on the buy/sell page soon and there will be pictures. Pm me or Saltaddict if you're interested or have questions etc.

I'm using 250W DE PFO mini pendants (http://www.pfolighting.com/AqPendants.aspx) screwed to the bottom of my hood. Thing with them is they have a small foot print (7.5x12") so you could mount them if a way that would allow you to place PC or T5s between for actinics or dusk/dawn. Reef Optix IIIs are similiar in size.

Could also do multiples of a combi pendant, PFO Acrolight (http://www.pfolighting.com/AqProfessional.aspx) is one.
