The Sharp claws mark him as a carnivore I Think.
A LFS near me had one looked like that but fist sized, ate everything it could catch, Corals, Shrimp, Other crabs.
They called him the "destroyer of worlds" Crab
good for a tank by himself like a mantis.

Or a sump.. The few that I've managed to catch, end up down there..

I've had a couple that looked like that. I agree with the "detroyer of the world" title. If your a real softie, put it in the sump. If your me & you've woken up to dissapearing zoa's, acro's & monti's with all their growth tips eaten off & fish with mysterious chunks missing from their tails, you would KILL IT!!!!!! Or, give it someone who feels the need to save it.

That baby is a sly rock crab. I could only catch mine at night when they would emerge to wreck havoc on my tank. one ate two fire shrimp in as many days when i first threw in this $50 snack! i threw them out my door

Its eyes are red because it is the spawn of Satan. He's a very bad crab. They can get pretty big too. I had one hitchhike that was about 1.5" wide.

Hey Finaddict,
How did you catch your crab? I may have something similar. He runs into his hole in a piece of LR I have every time I try to get him.

Definitely evil. I had one, bigger then a toonie and such a pain. He met his end with a pump impeller...

I kind of like the way he looks i heard that spreading your live rock out before introducing it to your tank and letting it sit for a small while (on a tarp) will get these nasty critters to expose themselves making it easy to get rid of most of them just my 2 cents:

For safety reasons, I usually smash the hell out of whatever crabs I find.
They're not THAT important in terms of having an "authentic" reef tank.
