You'll never regret having more depth in the tank. I'd go 24" deep if you can. The design looks great, have fun!

I have a 60x24x27(h), I think you would later regret not going with 24" front to back depth. I love built in tanks and would try for it to be veiwable on 2 sides if possible. You might also look at external overflows for more space in the tank.

ya first off so everyone knows this is my 4th in wall tank 1st one was a 120 gal , then a 280 gal , then a 170 gal , and now this one and it will have external over flows and it will be 60x24x24 since my last on was the same other then it being a 60x27x24 27 wide that is the 27 was nice but the back room ,doesnt give me much room to move around, since its my furnace room

Well I have changed my mind again the reason is I thought about and talked with Adidias about cube the only reason was i wanted to make a cube was the 1 light i would have to worry about and easy to change 2 bulb along with something simple. so i have switched back to a CUbe 36x36x24 since seeing Danny's tank on here. the stand will be 36x36x30 allowing me to have the stand be build some where else and havign it moved into the rec room once finished. so the cube is back on. just like Danny's. If I look at the way the tank is built its 36x36x24 i was thinking of a tank 30x30x30 the tank is o problem getting in. ITs the stand 30x30x30 it work probably work ,but dont want to take the chane of the stand not making it in the house after all the time and effort is put into it....

My 220 is 48x36x30. It was fun going down the stairs and there was a little demo on the ponywall going down but we replaced it with a removable railing with spindles. I had the stand build in 2 pieces and bolted it together when it was in place.
The 36" front to back is still worth it.

The tank is protruding out of the wall with a canopy and stand attached to the wall

Okay... so here's how it's done to have it half in/half out of the wall. Figure out how thick your wall is (average indoor walls are 4-6 inches thick). Then what you do is divide the depth of your tank in half. Of those two halves, subtract half the thickness of the wall. Build the stand so that the tank sits in and out of the wall. The canopy can actually be built 100% behind the wall, just make a false canopy front so that it gives the look of the in/out wall tank..

Did that make sense?

Like this but it will be a 36x36x24 cube Im going to run a 1x 400 w lumerac reflector over it on a Ice cap ballast you think that 1 400 would be enough..

ya and now since im totally renovating the basement I will have to wait til i get home to figure out what the heck to do now. The misses wants a in wall tank. it was easier when she didnt like my hobby. Now with her liking it more and more im having to meet her half way. i guess now im going with a 60x24x24 tank with either 250's or 400's over the tak ofcourse the reflectors will be lumernac.....
