Hey everyone. I was curious about the new Biocube skimmers. Has anyone tried one yet, like it, hate it?

I've looked at them too and wondered if they were any good. I'll see what I can find out tonight and post you some links.

They are an ok product, requires a lot of adjusting to get the skimate right. The sapphire Aquatics skimmer is a better product.

I cant comment on the Biocube skimmer but I have the Sapphire Aquatics NC12 skimmer and it is junk. First problem I have is the pump doesnt suck in air through th air tube, it would push water out of it. After some frustrating hours I had it sucking in air but then the bubble production is far insufficient to produce any skimate. I ended up attaching an air pump to th air intake hose and it works a lot better.

Also when I tried contacting the maker of the sapphire skimmer I recieved no response, I tried contacting with the e-mail provided on the website as wll as on a fourm he frequents and no such luck.

I don't know if I just recieved a defected product or if I set it up all wrong or if they are all useless but I know some have success with them and some don't.

PS: I have recently hooked up an air pump to my Saphire Aquatics skimmer and it now works very well. Althoguht not the original design, it does work.

i tried one of the bio cube skimmers and thought it was junk
it might work better for an accual bio cube but on just a normal tank i couldn't seam to adjust it easy enough and the suckers to hold it in place didnt stick well at all ended up fishing outa my tank so i took it back for credit

Hey Oilfieldsafety
What did you decide on a skimmer? I think I'm just going to build a Sapphire looking skimmer. Hopefully I get around to it this weekend. I started playing around with a powerhead last night trying to get adequate bubble production but didn't have much luck. Going to try hooking an airpump to it and see if that works better. If the air pump works I'll build the unit tonight, hopefully.

I ended up putting in a Bio Cube skimmer. It is a little finicky for water level in the tank, but is pulling fairly well considering the short contact time in the reaction tube.

When you say finicky, what do you mean? Does it just stop producing or does it just get really wet skimmate?

It get's very wet skimate.
