I just started a new tank and am using Zeovit products in it. I threw 100 lb of cured live rock in an 80 gal total system, followed the guidelines for dosing Zeovit in ?new live rock only? tanks and started watching the nitrogen cycle. It?s been gong a week so far and the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are still all reading 0.

The problem is I don't fully understand how Zeovit effects tank parameters so have no idea how to proceed. Because my life rock was cured and was out of water only about 8 hours is there insufficient die-off to make the tank cycle? Or, is my tank cycling and the Zeovit is keeping levels undetectable? Or, am I just being impatient and need to wait a little longer before I'll see any Ammonia?

Should I keep waiting, create an ammonia source (throw in some seafood to decay or move some damsels into the tank), start adding invertebrates...

Have you put anything in the tank to create Ammonia? If not drop a cocktail shrimp or fish food in the tank to let it break down. this will tell you if the die off for the 8 hours is going to cause a mini cycle. As for the Zeo part. Zeo will help in the cycle process. but you should still see Ammonia and Nitrite spikes. They maybe short and small.

Thanks for your reply - that's what I suspected but wasn't sure how much the zeovit could mask the cycle. I was expecting some cycle from the rock and was surprised to see nothing - I guess there was minimal die off of the rock. The smell disapeared in the first day.

I moved a couple damsels into the tank to trigger a cycle. Will keep monitoring and hope to see some spike.
