Unfortunately for us being a Socialist country,we have to pay taxes. But we don't always have to file a tax return. We only have to file if we owe money,or the feds request one for a certain year(s).

I think you can delete the "Socialist" bit there. I can only think of 2 places in the developed world that doesn't have some form of income tax.

I don't know if there is a law or not, but for those that refuse to pay tax can you please not drive on the roads, use the hospitals, the schools, police/fire/ ambulance, goverment programs and agencies, social safety nets etc, etc..

I'm so glad we don't have HMO's. Watch sicko or google health care in the USA. I don't have kids yet, but planning eventually inthe future. Here you have your baby and get to leave for free.....yay. State Side....With insurance $1000-2000. Without insurance 15,000+ pending no complications.....what a joke. The only 1st world country in the world with privatized healthcare....well except Guantanamo Bay(sp?). LOL Yay to Socialized Healthcare. Yeah it takes longer for things. I had hernia surgery when I was 19, I would still be stuck with a $60,000 bill if I was in the US with out insurance...here FREE! We do have it good in Canada. $54/month for healthcare is fine with me. I have a healthy friend in the US, to be fully covered he pays $600 a month, plus has a deductable if he makes a claim.

Pretty much free alright. Check the deductions on your next paycheque and you'll see how free it is!!! Government has no money, you do, where do you think the money comes from.

Damn, got a lot of.. ummm.. INTERESTNG.. opinions here.
Heres Income Tax in a nutshell.
If you do not file a tax return for three years and you owe the gov money, they CAN AND WILL access your bank accounts to get the money repaid.
Income tax pays for stuff like, the:
RCMP (im sure you all know what would happen without a police force)
MILITARY (What woulda happened in WW2 if it wasnt for income tax) And yes, thats when income tax was first introduced, was to help with the war.. not entirely sure if it was WW1, or WW2, but one of them.
SEARCH AND RESCUE. Sure, you go get you but lost in the middle of the forest in winter, im sure youd HOPE somebody comes to save you, but wait.. u didnt pay your taxes, so oh no, they didnt have any fuel to come get you because YOU DIDNT PAY YOUR TAXES.
HEALTHCARE.. Go ahead, and die without the basic of healthcare if ya dont wanna pay taxes.
FINANCIAL assistance for those that need it, and those that dont really need it, but dont wanna work.
And there is lotts more. So quit complaining of having to pay taxes, when it creates a life for us that is enviable in 99% of the countries around the world. So basically, if you want to stay alive and safe, cause you never know when you might NEED the services that your taxes pay for, than PAY YOUR TAXES.
Heres an interesting link for you to read.

If we to believe this movie maker then this is common misconception.
All these things you mention are being paid from different taxes and fees:
roads from gasoline tax
Police/fire ambulance from property tax
Don't forget GST & PST,tobacco tax, alcohol tax etc.(the list is long)
He says income tax are Not being used for anything but to pay for inflation i.e. printing more money and not even a penny goes to any of those things that you mention.
That is again If we believe in what Aron Russo is trying to tell in his film.

OK so I did some digging and came up with an interesting video on the Canadian Bill of Rights, and the tax code

And also found this website

Apparently according to these we don't "HAVE TO" pay Federal taxes. But I think we may need to have a lawyer along to explain it to the tax man.
I don't know if there is a law or not, but for those that refuse to pay tax can you please not drive on the roads, use the hospitals, the schools, police/fire/ ambulance, goverment programs and agencies, social safety nets etc, etc..
Yes please!!!
There is a guy that I used to work with. He's from Alberta, and didn't change his vehicle insurance to BC. He hasn't had car insurance since his Alberta plates ran out in July 2006. He says he doesn't think he should have to pay for insurance...says he's not going to hit anyone. Ignorant if you ask me, and one of the many reasons I have the optional "underinsured motorist" plan.

Id be making a phone call to the authorities.
ICBC are crooks!
I've got written proof of over 15 yrs safe, no accident driving from my insurers in the UK & ICBC wont give me a single % discount because I once claimed for a craked windshield 5 yrs ago.
Also, I don't know how an insurance company can ever be impartial if they had to represent 2 different parties.
When I renew, I'll be getting the bare legal minimum through ICBC & the rest I'll go with my usual insurer ING.
Rant Over :twised:

My friend once worked out, to the dollar, how many people you could kill over the course of a 30 year car insurance plan.
I forget how he came up with all the numbers, but his research paper made quite a buzz with the staff members of that semester.
Anyway, I guess, according to some statistics, you could kill three or four people and get your money's worth over 30 years. LOL?
